:covid_19: đŸ˜· đŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ❓

How do you claw back a grant that wasn’t given. That was central govt money which local councils were asked to manage the grant applications

I think the point is that money was made available during lockdown mark I which local businesses didn’t need/qualify for so wasn’t claimed. No such money is being made available now.

Admittedly not as much as back then but then I’m not sure you can compare now with then

Money was on the table, but not as much as Burnham wanted. He was angling for some sort of special deal for GM that was in excess to other regions in the same boat.

Whatever the rights or wrongs, the wrangling has cost ten days delay which could have been crucial in getting a grip on the virus in that region.

Blindingly obvious what is going on here, divide and rule, Tory tactics since time immemorial. An absolute disgrace. And these bastards have the brass neck to accuse Burnham of playing poiltics.

How dare a Mayor try and dictate to the Nation’s Government.
What does that puffed up egotistical commie twat think he is doing?
The Nation is in trouble & that little git is trying to score political points?

Yep
When you look outside the outraged on twitter that’s what the real world are saying.
I’m not gonna argue with them.
Personally I also think Burnham “tried” too hard thinking of the “win” not the result his City needed.

What a cluster fvck

Arguably he was only trying to do the best for all of the people who fall under his jurisdiction- left, centre or right. Is that so wrong?

To me it smacks more of Johnson and his government not wanting to lose face, hence Tory Central Office whipping up right wing faux indignation and rage to cover up the cluster fuck of their handling of the whole covid situation- but hey, that’s my own opinion, many will definitely differ.

I actually agree.
But it has again divided opinion.

Personally in a negotiation I always aimed for win:win. There always comes a point where IF you have wisdom, you cut the deal before you push the other side away.

Burnham did the right thing but imho from what info I have so far, he pushed 1 inch too far.

I feel for the victims not the players

Despite the Tories and the BBC spinning that Burnham is the bad guy, playing politics with covid etc etc, it is worth noting that the "puffed up, egotistical commie twat"has the backing of the region’s local authorities and MPs, Labour and Conservative. Hancock just now telling the HOC that Burnham should come back to the table. Except Burnham never left the table. The Tories did. Faithfully misreported by Lady Haw Haw.You can see why Hancock is one of Johnson’s favourites, like him he can lie as naturally as breathing.

12 billion to their cronies in Serco for an unfit for purpose test and trace.
7 million for a consultant to change the name of Highways England to National Highways.
3 billion to off the shelf 100 pound companies run by friends of Cummings and Gove for PPE, half of which was crap.
7000 a day for Covid ‘consultants’.
8 pounds a day per person in Manchester.
Yep, this is how it works, levelling up Johnson style. Know your place and if you don’t like it, tough shit, eat cake.
You forgot to tug your forelock Phil!

Maybe for the businesses / workers, but have his actions in delaying a move to tier 3 by almost two weeks been in the best interests for the elderly / vulnerable / NHS capacity?

I saw that Burnham called for National Unity earlier. If he was after more cash than other Tier 3 places received, then that’s just odd.

Regardless of tier, the government are the ones who are clearly failing the act to reduce infection rates, protect the elderly and ensure capacity in the NHS.

They have patently failed to do that across the whole UK in spectacular fashion, yet people are trying to hold Burnham to account imho.

@Nottarf-Krap missed my point completely.
And again, in your post I would say that Burnham compounded his negotiation error ( which he truly believed in & the City needed) but, he made himself an easy target.
Politics is as much about playing to the Karen’s on Facebook as it is winning University Debating Society points.
Sure Burnham has a trail of support but he has ( on my FB Timeline) lost a great deal more outside of Manchester.

Sometimes the deal needs to be taken. Sometimes you need to keep fighting.
History will tell

Will be more interested to see how Johnson comes out of his tenure as PM. I suspect history won’t be kind

South Yorkshire going to Tier 3 with the agreement of of the local leaders and on the same support package as Liverpool, Lancashire and what is on the table for Manchester- Burnham is beginning to look isolated

Now completely undermined.

Burnham really did play this one like a fool. Basically caught the “make an example out of me” bus.

Funny, because a lot of the Liverpool peeps on my timelines thought he was the second coming. Turns out that was just a Stone Roses album

Caught a bit of Sky News late last night then the press today and they were not kind to him.

So maybe Karen on FB was right after all and Twitter was wrong. Well that was unexpected

:lou_smiley:

To be fair there were plenty of annoyances on FB too.

“Liverpool being targeted”, etc, etc.

I think I responded to one with “Didn’t quite hear about the wolf, boy. Can you cry louder?”
