I am sure most people in this Country have moved past Father Christmas etc etc, the more educated and enlightened we become the more we look to science.

The difference between the two is very simple - the religious happy to accept things with belief and faith, whereas science is about evidence that increases the probability of various hypotheses being correct. Science does not Assume it has the all the answers - science is the quest FOR the answers.
As for consciousness- first you need to define what you mean by itā¦ evolutionary theory can very easily explain how we have evolved complex Brains that now ask existentialist and other philosophical questions ā¦ although these are often absent on Sotonians

I know what science is supposed to be and done as you say it is a wonderful thing. Itās not used like that though unfortunately, because of the world we live in and the funders of science. Look at the fucked up world around us for evidence.
Not the scientists fault admittedly, but just about every new discovery is abused for profit before the potential problems are understood.
The brain doesnāt define consciousness. Iāll start a thread soon(feel free to start it yourself if itās a subject that interests you) as iāve been looking into it for a while and itās very confusing in some ways, but also very interesting and a subject that no one can really be fully correct or incorrect about. We just donāt know enough although neuroscience(yes those pesky scientists are quite smart) is making big strides forward in our limited understanding.
