I saw the chief medic (or deputy) on TV earlier. Good solid info from a senior medical professional:
Schools: Still unclear but children seem much less prevalent to the virus. If closed, would need 4 months to actually be effective. Healthcare and emergency workers are parents too. Kids would still meet up and spend time in groups. And childcare would often fall to grandparents, some of whom are elderly.
Football / sporting events: Still not clear, but virus seems not to survive outside long. If fans banned, likely to meet / spend time in warm busy pubs where virus appears to survive much longer.
All might change but that’s the medical reasons at present

Have you just seen the news concerning France? They mirrored us until this morning, schools closed and money for parents, forms are already to go online.
League 1/2 cancelled this weekend.
Its abundantly clear we’re cunts who view money and football over safety of the elderly and vulnerable, cancel football, I love the game but can people live with transmitting and possibly inadvertently killing someone as they wanted to watch a match?

I actually understand the schools open logic.
Kids are in a regulated environment can be monitored and for many they will actually get fed.
Not everybody works in an office so it is not possible for everyone to work from home. How do you deliver goods to warehouse/shops if drivers have to stay home to look after kids. Ditto Medical Staff, Bus Drivers/Train Drivers etc.
How are they going to survive on 94 quid a week if they are sick and zero a week if they just stay home. So it will be the old folk who cannot self isolate through this to try and stay safe.
As for matches - utter bollock. FFS what about fans on Buses/Trains/Tubes going to games? Insanity
