Reading some of the comments on that twitter thread almost makes you lose the will to live! Itās American of course, one of many conspiracy sites, Trumpists to a man/woman. Iām guessing there are a few over here too. Corona virus is a world wide conspiracy to control everyone according to these nutters, make everyone wear masks, keep social distance, the state controlling what you can or canāt do etc etc. Everyoneās in on it, all the world leaders, doctors, nurses, scientists, governments deliberately trashing their own economies, hundreds of thousands of people pretending to die and so on and so on.
Somebody of my acquaintance half buys into it, i bet there are loads of them about. When i gently point out to him the above he just doubles down, refuses to even acknowledge my argument. He gets really het up which amuses me no end to be fair. I think i am getting to the bottom of it though, after some gentle probing it has become clear that what is really causing his irrational beliefs and anger is that he was due to go to the Philippines in June to get his leg over, and his flight was cancelled and he doesnāt know when he will be allowed in. Itās not that he really believes all this āitās all a conspiracyā shite, itās that he desperately wants to believe it. He wants it to all go away tomorrow. That Asian pussy is powerful medicine, (so iāve heard!), i have heard of cases where brains have been mislaid at the airport on arrival, never to be seen again!
