2 week holiday in Devon/Cornwall with swimming, kayaking and a spot of fishing. Brilliant.
Iâve organised a game of 5 aside with the wife and mother in law.
Donât know.
This from a New York Times article.
It is built on hard science, forensic investigation, complex mathematical models â and often a good deal of guesswork.
Itâs an indicator but is never accurate. Itâs specific to a region and not to a country. Itâs first is on fuck but not in off.
Will you be Norman Hunter?
My bird has the exact same problem with her 92 year old aunt.
So that scientific explanation clarifies that itâs a complete fucking guess and you can make-up whatever figure suits your agenda.
Thanks.
Why are we even using a system that flawed?
Was it free to download with the fantasy graphs colouring book on testing numbers and new cases, with the proviso that some regions donât bother to send in figures everyday so they draw them in later and cock up the whole thing?
While weâre on that, why the fuck donât they supply data everyday?
The Northern Ireland graph looks like a frigging heart monitor.
Buy them a fucking phone, email them - no wonder itâs all gone to shit if we canât even organise a phone call.
I know they need to keep kids amused, but getting them to provide Professor Cummings and his learned medical colleagues with vital data by colouring in graph paper is ridiculous.
At least weâre beating all those pesky Europeans, and it was nice to hear from Boris that UK deaths have sharply declinedâŠyes, because the office is fucking shut, it happens every seven days, itâs called the frigging weekend, wait for Tuesday you twat, theyâll sharply rise again.
What a shitshow.
I think you are being really unfair on those 2and year undergraduate interns working in the Spin Department.
Give them a break, itâs their 1st ride.
And give thanks they are in Downing Street, not trying to do business with you
Itâs not just in Europe, it is just about everywhere in the world, the coverage in NZ and Australia in particular is scathing, incredulous at the sheer ineptitude of this countryâs handling of the virus. Bordering on pity. The â we are testing hundreds of thousandsâ may well have been aspirational but the way he garbled it out along with the rest of the nonsense was meaningless nonsense, why not just say âwe intend to testâ, not 'we are testing. Why stop at hundreds of thousands, why not hundreds of millions, it would be just as meaningless, they canât even reach 100,000 except for one day when they saved up testing capacity to use them in one go to reach Hancockâs target in an attempt to save his face.
Another bare faced lie was the âwe have consulted the devolved governmentsâ. No they didnât! They have all said they were not consulted at all, the first they heard about the new slogan and the rest of Johnsonâs statement was reading it in The Telegraph after Johnson/Cummings leaked it to them. They didnât even consult their own cabinet FFS. No scrutiny of the executive by parliament, any media asking awkward questions barred from briefings, now not even any scrutiny from Johnsonâs own cabinet.
My personal opinion is that Johnson/Cummings knew exactly what they were doing when they briefed the press a few days ago with hints of an easing of the lockdown, resulting in headlines like âHappy Mondayâ, and âMonday will be freedom dayâ etc, they knew,(and desired) that this would result in a widespread breaking down of the lockdown on Bank Holiday. But they want to avoid taking responsibility for the consequences, that will be the publicâs fault, they will be responsible. The overriding thing Johnson is terrified of is being unpopular. With his track record he is the very last politician you would want running the show during a crisis like this. There are murmurings that there is starting to be some disquiet within the Conservative Parliamentary party and the 1922 committee at the way things are going, especially with the role of Cummings. When they are being skewered by the deputy political editor of the Daily Mail they may have problems. Hopefully they will come to their senses before itâs too late and send in the men in grey suits. But i wonât be holding my breath.
I donât think Johnson is trying to please people, heâs trying to do what his business buddies want. They need workers. It doesnât matter if some is then die whilst doing that work.
I get that, but I donât think itâs necessarily about him trying to please people, itâs more a case of him basing a lot of his decision making on whether or not it will make him unpopular. Itâs not leadership, especially in times like these. Government by leaking policy to his friends in the media first to see how it floats is not whatâs needed. Hestletine nailed it, âJohnson is a man who stands at the side watching to see which way the crowd is running, then jumps in front of them and shouts, follow meâ. At a time like this we need clear leadership, a truth teller regardless of whether or not the truth is painful and not what people want to hear. Not spin, manipulation of death figures and forecasts and the rest of the Johnson /Cummings untrustworthy bullshit. Just a few weeks ago we were being told that a death toll of under 20,000 would be a good result. Suddenly today, when the toll is upwards of 50,000 he tells us that it could have been half a million so that is evidence of our success. Itâs dishonest, manipulative nonsense, it makes me sick.
Any truth to the rumour that the next planned slogan is âGet Covid doneâ ??
Just ponder the implications of the sentiment expressed in this tweet.
Had a very nice weekend. The VE day âcelebrationâ that was planned was diluted to people sitting out in their gardens / driveways with cake and bunting and wandering around to talk to neighbours at a safe distance. It was interesting to hear the experiences of others too. More than one nurse said the hospitals they work in were very quiet with very few patients. Covid wards appear to be busier but not overwhelmed at all. However, they are worried about a sudden increase of patients all of a sudden as referrals start to pick up, which they should soon. Other folk are either twiddling their thumbs on furlough or have ânever been busierâ, depending upon their occupation. No one got pissed or did the Conga or tried to cop off with anyone. Everyone was conscious of their behaviour towards others. There was even a resolution for a collection of food for the local food bank. Interestingly, iirc, no-one knows of anyone within their social group who has tested positive for the virus. I see from the postcode tracker that in Southampton there have been 536 positive tests (about 0.21% of the population) for the virus, but it doesnât say how many tests have been carried out. I donât suppose anyone knows do they - it would be interesting to find out?
