:covid_19: 😷 šŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ā“

Seemed reasonably straightforward to me, but i suspect i am in the minority. If you can work from home, then continue to do so. If you cannot work from home and you haven’t been working then you are actively encouraged to go back to work.if it is safe to do so. I don’t understand why there is so much confusion other than at what point Employers not providing safe areas of work can be forced to do so. There is still an element of self assessment of risk, as there would be in anything. In my industry we have been working for the last 4 weeks to establish safe working practices on building sites. The Construction Leadership Council has assembled COP’s for site works and everyone is signing up to them, so it’s all positive. :+1:

Hallelujah, there is someone else in this world who has common sense … welcome @Numptyboi partner. I’m in work today (as I could neither work from home nor did I need to rely on public transport) - there is respectful social distancing and the fucking world is still going on. I thought I’d dive on here over a sandwich to have some social enlightenment … what a fucking moan fest. ā€œDon’t know what I’m doingā€, blah blah. For fuck’s sake people … use some common sense. I’ve met a decent cross section of this Sotonians community and you are nothing but down to earth, mature (!) and sensible people (well except for Harry). I’m sure you can all work out what’s best for yourselves. Don’t lower yourself in to the mire of Social media lip pouting, 'cos you’ll all look like dim tarts. Get the fuck on with your lives, stay safe and stay away from each other. I might delete this mail in 24 hours time - and I certainly won’t be responding to any click baiting.

Well you’re in the minority, as most of the major news outlets don’t seem to have a scooby, you’ve had Andrew Bridgen and Dominic Raab on this morning both giving conflicting versions of the advice on TV this morning.

Also, why does it fall to you to tell me that I have a legal right to work in a safe environment? Why can’t Raab cite that when asked direct questions about it?

This is literally a government trying to get away with murder.

If we’re using common sense, why is public transport still running?

Why are there empty buses going up and down my road all day?

One thing I have noticed is that the lockdown has increased the volume in the echo chambers. By people not getting out, they are not only spending their time online in their chosen echo chambers, but they have created mini echo chambers at home. No one is getting an alternative view that you might get if you were mixing with other people, like your mate telling you to stop being a knob.

I say this without championing any particular view or agenda before anyone starts on that

That’s what Facebook is for.

The people you see posting there you pretty much have to put up with because they are family or close friends that have different political views.

It is easier however to ignore / dismiss those views if you don’t agree with them - for instance the Ayatollah has hidden a few friends who have gone full bat shit on facebook posting 20 plus statements / memes a day - she got fed up with it so she has in effect censored them - no doubt many others are doing the same

The point is she was exposed to them in the first place, and yes, some people go overboard. Loads of people muted me during the 2017 general election

But she isn’t anymore so now she is safely cocooned into an echo chamber of her own making

Knicked from Facebook today:

Dear Boris. i need some concise advise to suit my needs only please.
yesterday after too many beers, i laughed at a joke and shit myself.
As i have no way of thinking for myself, could you please tell if im ok to clean myself? But if it doesnt work out well for me, can i moan to you about it, or plan b, can someone else wipe it for me?

Piers Morgan, the John Terry of broadcasting?
An unpleasant human being with an appalling track record and the occasional slip.
He’ll gatecrash events to promote himself but he’ll do a job for you so you want him in your team.
He can’t make you like him, but you have to nod approval when he’s the only one showing any fight and he goes in knee-high on an annoying opponent while representing our country.
Great job Piers, excellent work, keep it up - but no, I don’t want to meet up after the game, or any other time thanks.

I’m not telling you anything, but don’t let that stop you imposing your own context in order to get upset by it. The white noise about ā€œmurderā€ is just nonsense and debases any conversation.
My point was the message, whilst needing expansion as it was only brief in the timeframe, was quite straightforward to understand. It will be interesting to hear the content of the clarity later today.

Calling anything just nonsense is just nonsense and debases any conversation.

I’m prepared to put meat on the bones of that claim and debate it.

Are you?

Speaking from the vulnerable standpoint of myself and my wife what should be sacrosanct when issuing instructions to the populace, is to pitch the instructions to the lowest common denominator.

OK all here can pick the meat from the gristle of a garbled and in places contradictory statement but we also have to associate with others who will interpret a mixed message to suit themselves at the expense of the more vulnerable.

This will mean those who think they are at the low risk end of the scale will feel less need to ā€œremain alertā€ā€¦they become the most dangerous to the vulnerable. If you’re part of that group who make up 80+% of all Covid deaths in this country it won’t be difficult who amongst the population are likely to pose the greatest risk to you.

That’s why I’m annoyed at yesterday’s statement, not that I didn’t understand it but that it allows others to become careless at our expense.

As you well know, murder needs intent to be proved beyond any reasonable doubt. Feel free to chase that particular rabbit down that particular hole, but i’m off to do some actual work, in my social distanced and safe, working environment. :+1:

You can prove murder beyond all reasonable doubt without a court case, otherwise you’d never have unsolved murders.

Back when we used to send smallpox blankets to Native Americans, was that genocide or was it just people getting unlucky with the disease?

For me, manslaughter is not strong enough a term. It’s unintentional. When you’ve got Cummings reported as saying ā€œif some pensioners die, too badā€, COVID-19 patients in hospitals sent BACK to care homes so they can die off the stats while taking others with them, and a government giving dirt-clear advice on going back to work when there is active legislation which protects those people against unsafe work environments, which the government does not mention when questioned about this very topic.

The government knows these measures will kill more people. They knew Cheltenham would kill more people, just as they knew Liverpool vs Atletico would kill more people and beyond how that might make them look, they don’t seem to care.

What would you call the above? I doubt you’d even call it mass manslaughter.

That is how the government literally gets away with murder.
