:covid_19: 😷 šŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ā“

I would say the lack of transparency - adding a political spin to the briefings is particularly cuntish - you might not like Merkel or the Germans but That article above shows their transparent honesty in the briefings has had impact on many areas of the management of the crisis

To be fair, nearly all countries have under recorded the total direct COVID 19 related deaths… and one could argue this doe not matter if they published the the data on the total deaths above the norm as a result…

But the worst is that some folks will have died in care homes who COULD have been saved had they been in hospital. Maybe not many, but even 1 additional death because of a lack of care is blood on Boris’s hands IMHO

Political input to a science advisory team. Again, not a good look at best. At worst…

And on the subject of masks.

  1. They are mandatory here.
  2. Vast hours of TV were given over to how to make fabric masks
  3. Everyone understands the masks REDUCES aerosol spray distance
  4. Everyone understands they are to KEEP OTHERS SAFE.
5 Supermarkets give away masks with adverts on them.
6 Nobody is wearing medical supplies. Luckily this isn’t an Idiocracy

Science is showing results that evolve. Some people cannot understand that Government Advice needs to evolve they fail to differentiate between Health Advice & Doctrine.

The science is trending to show there is a rapidly decreasing likelihood that Pubs, Restaurants, Sports events will be reopening any time soon - basically until some form of medical treatment for sufferers exist.
It also suggests staying the fvck away from non-HEPA Filtered Air Conditioning.

Polska - my critique is not aimed at wearing a mask. ALLmeasures will help IF folk don’t feel overly secure as a result and forget about the other stuff

My critique is aimed at that bloke and his TWITT headline that those studies showed mask were more important than hand washing when neither study even looked the difference in transmission paths. Scientifically to draw such conclusions from those studies is basically wrong so the guy is talking shite.

Secondly it’s a it dangerous to suggest it would be better to wear a mask than wash hands

Ultimately, we should all be doing what we can to limit the spread. That means staying home, washing hands and wearing masks might help so no reason not to… but like I said, for them to be effective you need to wash hand before and after you touch the mask … every time…

BBC News - Coronavirus: France bans online sales of nicotine products

The new panic buying…

But the comment doesn’t say dont wash hands. It says advice to wear masks may have been better.
Now I fully understand some people cannot cope with being told 1 thing let alone 2.

My exasperation is with UK Gov still not giving face covering advice.
Again crying about loss of PPE - even wearing a scarf counts here, & you can make a mask out of kitchen towel, 2 elastic bands & a stapler!
It reduces the spray effect.

You just need to message clearly.

I don’t mind Merkel or the Germans, as it goes. I just the world is safer when they constrain themselves to making decisions for German people.

It’s obviously the latter. They said it outright at the beginning, herd immunity was the stated strategy.

NB, Polski did not make this quotes, some folks on twitter did that he is quoting

This is what I had an issue with Polski… as both the statements are just ā€˜opinion’ and there is no evidence to support these claims in either study

As you say, people need CLEAR and FACTUAL information, and its stuff like this on twitter that spreads shite… most folks will read those statements not the actual studies… my advice is stay away from twitter…

So where are you getting your CLEAR and ACCURATE news from?

Because the news ain’t doing it and neither is the government.

Is there a little leprechaun that lives on your shoulder that only you can see? Is that where you get your info?

I read the reports AND the comments.
They tie in with a report in The Guardian about research into clusters
Vietnam showed how policy needs to be adaptive not doctrinal

necessary? really?

I work in healthcare Pap… I read published data, and also look at the information that IS fact vs hypothesis vs speculation. And yes there is still plenty of speculation, but within scientific circles this is reported as such. Its why I am proving links to information about TOTAL deaths because there is currently no accurate data on actual COVID -19 attributed deaths because they are to consistently recorded as such.

If you are getting your news and FACTS from social media, then i would be worried.

Just because we can’t trust the Government and its channels, does not mean we can trust Twitter and a bunch of folks who cant actually interpret a scientific study…

Mask wearing is ā€˜unproven’ as general protective measure to the population - there is NO current evidence to suggest it reduces infection rate within the general population. Will it do any harm? normally no, but if will if it means folks stop washing hands or fail to wash hand before or after putting them on taking them off… and why in many countries they are not committing to wearing them in public… see will as it is also impacted on by culture

it also creates a shortage for health care worker who DO need them, although much better PPE exists as this masks are not the best for keeping infection out… being designed to keep it in

And cluster research shows how EVERY Nation ā€œforgotā€ about Care Homes

Again, they don’t Phil.

NO one is saying that policy should respond to new data /evidence of course it should, but neither of these two opening salvos mention anything about adapting policy, they make BS claims. Neither to the studies make any claims about evolving policy because both papers being scientific recognise its such conclusions can not be drawn from the observational studies. They are good pieces of work, but folks are attributing inaccurate conclusions to them … that is what I have an issue with and its all over Twitter…

Anyone with hands like 40 grit sandpaper after all this washing? I can wholly recommend this, only thing I’ve found that works better than E45:

edit: for every tube purchased Nursem donate a months supply to a nurse or midwife.

Is it soothing?

depends who rubs it in

Necessary? If I wanted to make a Simpsons reference, yes.

Uhm… have you got a little Tony Benn sat on yours?

This weekend will be a bad one for people gathering in public places
