After a couple of weeks of very few deaths per day (some days single figures) China has just had a spike with nearly 1500 deaths in the last 24 hours, 2nd wave maybe or dodgy reporting?

Fucking hell. That’s the sort of thing that’ll bring a government down.

For the record, I still think the death toll in Grenfell was under-reported. A place like that, I figure there’s a bit of sub-letting going on and a lot of family members coming to stay, who may or may not be legally registered in this country. You don’t exist, you don’t count.

I don’t think they have that option with this. Even with all the massaging of figures to keep COVID-19 off the death certificates and not reporting deaths in care homes or the wider community, the numbers will come out, and while we may never know the true scale of the death toll, it will be horrific enough to truly shock people.

That, aligned with bollocks like this, could sink the Tories before Boris’ government had even got a paddle up.

I think we are in very dangerous times. The only difference between the current Tory front bench and the current Labour front bench is that the Labour MPs pretend they care a bit more.

Depart this island east or west and you will find similar conundrums and potential tinderboxes, with ashes from the past smouldering nearby.

Germany’s main two parties, supposedly arch rivals, have been in coalition for over a decade. The opposition isn’t opposing.

Same thing is about to happen in Ireland. Fianna Fail and Fine Gael were arch enemies, but are now going into coalition with each other. The opposition is not the opposition.

And so we have the same thing with Keir Starmer’s Labouer Party, largely backing the government’s disastrous plays. The opposition is not the opposition, and wasn’t even went Corbyn was in power because LOTO was being actively undermined by its own internal hierarchy.

If the opposition is not the opposition, who will voters turn to?

Of course they’d like to stay at home in care, what about their house/flat though thats needed in the housing crisis?
In very simple terms we need to fund social care better and the only way that will happen is higher taxes, I’m all for a basic rate of 25% to start with or an absorption of NI to make it 30% approx but the thing is most aren’t as when it comes down to it we Brits are brilliant at giving a tenner to cleanse our soul but real cunts when it comes to tax, we’re more Yank than European in that sense.
It’ll only get worse as well as more industry and big non unionised business’s leave the UK we’ll have more small business’s who won’t want unions and obviously want as low tax as possible.
Europe is dying due to its high cost, we’re just doing it quicker as we’re not subsidised by our Government, if you have kids talk to them about better Countries with far far better long term prospects, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and North East US or tell them to learn Norwegian.

Thread. An analysis of the process that led to ventilators being made that would never have been used.

I had similar concerns at the time as to the capability of these knocked up ventilators to actually be effective in the worst cases, looking back now it almost seems like the government just wanted to be seen to be doing something, as in ā€˜ā€˜look at all these ventilators we’re going to get’’, when the term ventilator can relate to a lot of different models and functions. I wouldn’t trust matt handcock to give me a tissue to blow my nose with.
