Have a read of the article by SOG’s old boss (link above) and you’ll see a justification for why it was used. It also doesn’t set any precedents for future cases and doesn’t set back women’s rights by 30 years, but as I probably say too much, it’s not going to stop the media / pressure groups from telling you a story that fits their agenda / sells more papers.
