She doesn’t post here.
Fair point, misread it through tears of laughter
Exports account for about 15% of all total trade in the UK, don’t they?
85% of it is internal.
It wasn’t that funny.
I mean, it’s nowhere near as funny as the weekly excuses for Star Trek Dicks Over Me.
As far as I know, they don’t post here either.
I don’t give a shit that it’s blue. I am happy that European Union will no longer get any type of billing on that document. It had top billing before.
Sorry, fails a test - not quite understanding?
We import sustainable and ethically sourced clothing from both China and India. This makes up approx 60% of our orders. We get charged 12% duty on import into the UK on both cost price and freight.
We bring into a DC here, and then export out to our main market, Europe (because people here don’t give a shit about the environment and stuff like that).
Our main customers are the large German Internet retailers, and as such we are now going to have to pay the 12% duty from the UK to Germany (again on the sale price - so our markup included).
We are investigating becoming an importer of record into Germany, breaking bulk and importing into the UK from there for the small UK market, but now due to being outside the EU it is far more difficult to setup a new entity on EU soil.
Ok I get it
So because the majority of the product’s raw material Country of origin is outside of the EU a 12% tariff lands in the export to the EU
So currently we have a situation where we have legacy EU import tariffs and new export tariffs to the EU
So I guess the first thing to resolve is to remove the tariff on the imports so that reduces the price of the product - not going to help immediately as stock has already been purchased.
As I said before, we’re not a new entity. There aren’t many countries in the EU that have had their current political system longer than we have.
I recall something coming across my desk suggesting one of the baltic states as an option. Cheap / low regulation etc. It might have been latvia
Pap, he is talking about companies - not countries
What is wrong with you? Business entity.
Exactly that. We’re going to continue with legacy import tariffs until new deals are signed.
This will be a huge issue for a lot of UK businesses.
The thing with this is people are by habit totally and utterly fucking biased, people are totally polarised now on every subject and they (I include most on here failed to see nuanced arguments) only see what they want to see and anything they perceive that will strengthen their argument magnify x1000.
Yesterday as an example concerning the riots, didn’t mention the 4 dead as they probably didn’t agree with their politics, its totally immature and basic.
Its new its going to fuck up, judge it after a while, if it works you can bet your bollocks to a barndance the moaners won’t acknowledge it as it doesn’t fit in with their selfish narrow agenda.
Just fuck off.
I have no time to compile the suggested list.
Ps
@Barry-Sanchez
Most folks will be very aware its early days and all that and that it will most likely take 12 month or so to iron out some of the administrative and logistical challenges… that is understood. But we are not talking about just about ‘teething problems’ but about companies for whom applied tarrrifs may either considerably reduce their margins or if passed on reduce their competitiveness on export… that is already impacting on some businesses
As for highlighting and admin burden and logistics issues after only a week… its just a ribbing init… like having a laugh over the fact that project fear is not overwhelming us …after only 2 days…
The problem with your straw man Barry…
is that just because something works, does not mean its better than what we had before… I will be happy to acknowledge everything that ‘works’ - can you say the same about the stuff that works less well?
I think you’ll find I say it as it is, whether that’s convenient for my point of view or not, can you? Be honest.
Yep, will be happy to acknowledge any tangible benefit of leaving the EU… note tangible to you or I, not conceptual that gives delusion of value
PS. What tangible benefit to you are you looking forward to most?
Self determination.
