I am sure there are some who vote against it purely to be awkward bastards - but it is the responsibility of MPs to vote according their POV on the quality and correctness of the decision, not just on what they think will be popular
This deal does not set out any contingency for the realistic timeframe for a trade deal and as such we are left with an open door for no deal… which IMHO is exactly what some folks want for personal gain.
It’s a sad situation that many of the ‘people’ seem to want MPs just to follow the ‘will’ as opposed to a richer knowledge of the implications or hidden agendas… MPs have a moral responsibility do do what they believe is right, not what will just get them or their party elected.
To avoid confusion we have no deal now… all
Anyone is voting g on is a framework for exit to try and ensure a deal is possible And well managed… problem is the current ‘framework’ has too many holes that mean our exit with no formal trade deals in place is still highly likely…
Whether you support Boris’ s ‘deal/framework’ or not largely depends on whether you think exiti g after the transition period with no trade deal in place is OK or likely to be a cluster fuck on the economy
Let’s be honest. This is a livelihood that has been bestowed on EU fishermen through Heath’s total capitulation to the costs of entry back in the seventies.
I stayed in a fishing town during my association with County Down. A good deal of the town were in the fishing industry, and a good deal of the town was given a big backhander not to fish, so that those livelihoods could be bestowed.
That does not sound a particularly smart way to go about things.
Anyone got tickets for Farage’s Festival of Gammon in Trafalgar Square? Should be a good day. Not sure about the line up though, true believers are a bit thin on the ground amongst the rock n roll community. Obviously Morrissey will be headlining, maybe James Blunt and Roger Daltrey. Oh and that folk group from Phoenix Nights, with their unforgettable ditty, ‘Send The Buggers Back’. They will storm it, get the biggest cheer of the night!
Calling on ‘patriots’ to ring their local church bells to celebrate our new found independence just like we did after defeating the Nazis at the end of World War 2.
FFS, Little England is alive and well.
How about the clear implication that anyone who doesn’t want to celebrate leaving the EU is not, and cannot be, a patriot? And comparing leaving the EU to the end of a war in which millions died? Seriously, do you see nothing wrong with that?
Agree that it is a stupid idea, but cannot disagree with Johnson in that it is not to be funded by Government - it would open them up to all sorts of accusations they do not want.
If people are fucking stupid enough to give their hard earned for a couple of rings of a bell to make themselves feel better, then more fool them.
One of my many talents.
