The greatest trick ever pulled was by the bloke who came up with this.
Maugham off to the Scottish courts again today
Basically wants to stop parliament passing the WA because it contravenes some other legislation
And to have a court order regarded the information provided to MPs
Surely this is not something the courts should be ruling on
The first point should be sorted by clause in the WA superseding the offending legislation
And the second is in the gift of the Speaker not the courts
I get the feeling that he has been emboldened by previous successes and is overplaying his hand
I reckon there will be enough Labour rebels. Boris will get his deal and will destroy Labour in the next election.
There is some proper panicking going on with some of the remain politicos
I think they are finally realizing that those (ie not the rabid tweeters) who want to remain want this shit to be over even more now and that any new delaying tactics by them will be seen as requesting their own P45s from the gravy train.
Yes, sadly i would agree with that. For what it’s worth i think he should get his deal through now, and hope he does. But let’s be quite clear, in reality this is a vote for ‘no deal’, that has been made quite clear today when John Baron let the cat out of the bag. He has received assurances from Gove and Raab that in a years time, if no deal has been negotiated we will not extend negotiations and will crash out. Most of the people who will do the negotiating are in agreement that it would take an absolute minimum of 14 months to reach any deal. It’s not rocket science. Classic Cummings, but very clever. 95% of May’s deal is intact. The protections of worker’s rights, workers entitlements and workplace safety that were in May’s agreement have all been removed from Johnson’s. May’s withdrawal agreement contained the following section, which has been removed from Johnson’s.
“fundamental rights at work, occupational health and safety, fair working conditions and employment standards… the parties shall ensure that the level of protection provided for by law, regulations and practices is not reduced below the level provided by the common standards applicable within the Union and the United Kingdom”. Now why would he insist on that being removed i wonder!
I hope he gets this agreement through tomorrow because, IMO, it is now vitally important for democracy in this country that Johnson, Cummings and the rest of them are made to own it, and more importantly seen to own it. And that goes for the Labour MPs who vote to enable him. I don’t think many people voted for a no deal Brexit at the referendum but that is what they are going to get. The ones cheering for it the loudest will have to own it.
As Labour, i think we have now reached the end game in ‘operation get Corbyn’. Here we have John Mann, who resigned the Labour whip and has been appointed Czar of something or other by Johnson, all over the BBC, who dishonestly refer to him as “Labour”, giving the impression that he represents The Labour Party, even though he is, at the moment, acting as Johnson’s whip, recruiting Labour MPs to defy the party whip. Ruth Smeeth, popping up all over the place announcing she will also vote for Johnson. For these people this has got nothing to do with their principles about the referendum result, this is their end game in three years of constant attacks and smears on Corbyn. Mann, Smeeth, even Kinnock Junior would vote for a cholera epidemic if they thought it would put paid to a Labour government under the current leadership. As for Corbyn, sadly i think it is probably terminal for him. It’s too late for him to come out fighting and take them on now, he should have done it three years ago when all the anti-semite nonsense started. Haven’t got a clue who will replace him, though i think it will be a case of ‘don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’.
I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for Corbyn but you’re right. His big problem was not confronting these issues head on, early on. We could have had a load of new socialist MPs in 2017 had he done so.
That election was as much about May’s utter shitness as Corbyn’s brilliant campaigning, and he still didn’t win, largely because his own party worked against him.
I like Laura Pidcock.
If I felt that the ‘will of the people’ was being satisfied by this whole debacle… I would accept it. But sadly it’s the will of some devious and cunning bastards who did not even need to try that hard given the poss poor remain campaign… but we will see the hard right and Boris lead ya to the new dawn of shit. Corbyn will be forgotten, consigned to the Micheal Foot bin of good intentions and ideology … almost naive to the shit heap realities of modern politics… Britain is not ready for socialism… class too embedded into our society, with our working class happy to vote for cunts like Johnson because he delivered a masterful con…
I think the powers that be are maybe scared that Britain could well be ready for socialism, as evidenced by the continuous smear campaign, vilification, lies and misrepresentation of Corbyn by virtually the whole of the MSM, especially the BBC for the past 3 years. Laura Pidcock would face exactly the same treatment unless she renounced the vast majority of her currently held beliefs. Especially any support for the human rights of Palestinians. Corbyn’s biggest sin, in the eyes of many is that he isn’t Tony Blair. The far right project is well entrenched at the seat of power now, it’s just a matter of how much people are prepared to put up with. We can’t say we weren’t warned. This from seven years ago, when a Brexit referendum was a mere sperm!
I think the powers might be misguided though… Education cuts in the Thatcher years were a policy and strategy - dumb down the working classes , strip their hope and ambition and then when they are doing shit jobs for low income, given them tax breaks so they see how generous she was… couple with a good old fashion bit of imperialism in the south Atlantic back by the working mans paper the Sun, and the working class is suddenly Tory voting…
… just as shitting on the Scots was part of it…40 safe labour seats handed to the SNP after continually dropping shot such as the poll tax experiment there first… power, greed and cuntishness on the back of the ‘Churchillian’ spirit …
We now have a country where the majority don’t have a fucking clue what they voted for or even why… just convinced that with ‘our country back’ we’ll all be called Dick fucking Whitingham and be walking streets paved with gold…
I for one am stocking up in decent fucking wellies as I suspect the streets will be paved in shit.
Who’s Dick fucking Whitingham?
Farage I think or maybe that’s what they called Cameron’s ‘love pig’?
I would correct the auto correct but would null and void your post and I may be a cunt but I am not that much of a cunt
You Sir were born a cunt.
I’m just a self made man.
Love that quote
Blair Major and Hesletine all rallying around to vote down the deal and stop Brexit
I would say their intervention is more likely to make you take a contrary view
Theresa May just delivered a good speech. She came across as almost human.
So what exactly have these nob heads done now?
What does this Letwin clause actually mean?
When are they going to vote on this bloody deal? Mogg suggesting a Monday , Bercow saying maybe not
No agreeing to his shit deal until he goes back to the EU and guarantees an extension, in case of any shenanigans by the known liar.
I mentioned this the other day, it’s the only hope he’s got of getting his “shitter than May’s deal” deal through.
Far from over remember, as you said yourself. I want it to go legal again. Quite enjoyed going through the options and interpretations, which is far more interesting than the simplistic drivel the media try to feed us to engineer consent.
This will probably play all the way to the last minute and long past that(sorry, but it’s looking quite possible).
I cannot see the EU renegotiating a third time
