In the Roman days, one of the biggest reasons for holding onto power was the legal immunity you had to charges being brought against you. Competitors would line these cases up, perhaps fatally in the case of Caesar.
I think if we’re realistic, most governments of any day get a certain degree of media immunity, perhaps none more so than the honour guard Tony Blair seemed to get from Andrew Marr when the bombs finally dropped.
I praise the media of the time for asking questions about the legality of the war and especially the BBC for actually being independent and seeking answers to some very difficult questions.
We do not have that BBC anymore, sadly. Got its teeth kicked out in the attempt. I’m singling them out because despite all that, they are still our dominant broadcaster.
Even so, I can’t see any of the broadcasters running with this and making this a thing, and that’s a shocking indictment on where our mainstream journalism is.

Hmm. Quite possibly, but he had been missing for 7 days before being seen on Monday. Despite the flooding, the coronavirus crisis etc. Not a peep out of him, holed up in a stately home in Kent with his girlfriend, despite only just returning from a holiday in Mustique. Strange behaviour for a Prime Minister to say the least.

As @Nottarf-Krap said, the 7 days before that is when any damage might have been being hidden. That he was seen on the 9th day doesn’t disprove anything, does it?
Not suggesting I believe it or not, just that the ‘proof’ doesn’t make any sense.

Quite. You are missing nothing. It’s not as if this hasn’t happened before, i’m sure we all remember when the police were called when the fragrant Carrie attacked Johnson in her flat. Surely the point is, why, when the country was under siege from floods, coronavirus, everybody asking ‘Where is the Prime Minister’, and various ministers scrambling to excuse his total inaction, while he was holed up in his stately home. Then he appears a week later. It’s not normal. BBC journalists don’t just pull these things out of the air and make it up, and certainly don’t go public unless there is some substance to the story. The bottom line is this, why did Johnson go missing for a week, a week in which the country has suffered devastating floods, the coronavirus crisis? during the last floods,(before the election),Johnson was all over the news bulletins, photo opportunities wielding a mop showing concern about the plight of people affected. These floods are much worse, but no sign of him, despite the clamour from everybody for him to put in an appearance. Any normal Prime Minister would have responded to this, but no, he kept his head down. Why didn’t he want to be seen? As far as i’m concerned it’s obvious why. Very sad that, despite all the evidence that we have a Prime Minister of this country who is a pathological liar, a sexual incontinent, an absent father, who’s two adult children have disowned him, even to the point of refusing to acknowledge his paternity, there are, otherwise perfectly sensible and reasonable people on here who seem desperate to defend him. Prepared to forgive him anything just as long as he delivers their holy grail of a no deal Brexit. I find it baffling to be honest…
