I’m trying to resist the urge to respond to Barry and I wanted to make a record of this somewhere for cathartic reasons.
I don’t think he should be banned or silenced. His worldview is such that he could get paid to spread it by the 77th brigade. It’s almost entirely wrong in my opinion but he’s entitled to it. I think I’m finding it a bit unfulfilling to discuss anything with him because the only common ground we share is at the most basic level. It is infuriating to have to keep coming back to that same basic level in order to lay out an argument, particularly since the arguments have been made many times already and there is no sign of us converging on any sort of agreement. I’m not saying I’m blocking him or that I won’t engage with him again in future I’m just saying that if I don’t respond it’s neither an admission of surrender or tacit admission of agreement.
Yours is a pro Russian view, I accept it but I don’t have to respect it, the same for you to me, I certainly won’t be asking to ban you or censure you, no way an open society should be.
The word forum has meaning.
Does it mean incessantly shouting loudly at anyone that departs from your view?

What Bucha, locking civilians in tunnels so they can’t leave, bombing convoys, invading a sovereign country and many other ware crimes, its there if you want to believe it.

So yeah, @TheMightyOstrich - I probably owe you a more fulsome reply than an obvious pun. I concede that from your perspective, e.g., someone that is not engaged in a debate with Barry, that people replying to the whoppers might be out of order.
Before you get too judgemental, have a go at disagreeing with him on something. The notifications thing on the top right will blink all day, you’ll be confronted with unsourced and barely literate claims like the ones above - and they will, on average, arrive within five minutes of you making a response.
Lest we forget, this is what Barry got banned for. I know we’ve already lost valued posters since his return.
Perhaps you are in full agreement with everything Barry writes and have no reason to offer a competing opinion. If that’s the case, I will happily let the occasional pops slide with a crap pun.
If not, disagree with him, and walk a mile in the shoes of those debating with him and those that have walked miles away afterward.

In my view Barry is someone who has been radicalised by Western propaganda.
All his arguments derive from a core belief that the West are a good faith actor who’s espoused values are genuinely held and worthy of propagation to the rest of the world.
He is a zealot, uncompromising in this belief in spite of all arguments to the contrary.
Arguing with a #zealot# is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are the pigeon knocks over the pieces, craps on the board and struts around as though victorious.
Many here myself included have allowed themselves to get swept up in his obsessiveness and hate. If he’s frustrating you, that’s because you’re trying to find logic in something irrational. The way that you are feeling is on you, not him, he’s just a pigeon. Relax, ask pointed questions perhaps, feed him some bread or say nothing at all and just enjoy his avian splendour.

Tbf, if on the other side, you could say the same of @pap. In fact, it’s been something that we’ve all been on the other side of at one point or another - and let us all be clear, many valued posters have left here also because of that.
There is a massive issue with the Russian thread. Not only do the majority of posts read as pro-Russian, they read as pro-invasion. There is also very little condemnation of the war crimes (which if true, are appalling). It seems a very strange hill to die on for a lot of you.
