But you’ve had to name a Championship side, one that has Davis, Lallana and Schneiderlin (on the bench) in, far worse?
We’ve lost this season with a whimper to many a team with far more resources.
The club is on turmoil, as bad as it was then, maybe I can see it as I am from afar, but we’re royally fucked.
Barry, read your own post. You said the bit about over 40 years, not me. In that you will clearly include teams that played in the Championship and in League One. If you wished to exclude those seasons then you should have said so. You didn’t.
I didn’t no maybe I should have but then every one of those seasons we had promise from the academy that came to fruit, we bought tremendously well and kept players for a long time in modern football, we were building something.
When we got Fonte from Palace a division above I knew we were going places, we’re going places now, the same place we got Fonte.
2008 away to Sheffield Wed. The Pitts were opened that day.
One game?
You’re talking here about the following season. In 2008-9 we had players from the academy (Lallana and Scheiderlin among them), but other academy players such as Lloyd James were more prominent. Trust me, the only place we looked to be going that season was oblivion.
You quoted the game, I am saying the players, are our wires crossed?
Our worst XI, as you put it yourself, surely applies to a single game. Don’t move the goalposts because you’re losing the argument.
I actually said back 4 and then stated possibly XI, I’m not losing any argument, this team is as poor as any I can remember with as little heart as I can remember. One game would be an over reaction, the course of a season is fair isn’t it? Or not.
Probably not.
OK Barry, here’s your post, or specifically the part of it that I was responding to:
I mean we’ve pulled out all the stops here for having quite possibly our worst ever back 4 and at a push our worst XI in at least 40 years.
That’s what you said. I said this was nonsense, you challenged me thus:
Go on then big bollocks name a worse side, one that not only have less skill but less fight, we can then go through the XI, thats fair.
So I gave an example of a worse Saints XI (as did Let’s Be Drinking). You then objected on criteria that you hadn’t previously mentioned (competition played in, one game or more than one game). I’d call that an equivocation fallacy.
But even then you got it wrong, and in more ways than one. First, you confused two very different seasons - I was referring to the season of our relegation from the Championship, you referred very clearly to our first season in League One. Second, you mentioned players such as Lallana and Schneiderlin as if they were at their best (in Saints terms) in the team I mentioned, whereas they were in reality nothing of the sort. Actually, that’s just more equivocation fallacies right there.
If you can’t argue in a straight line then don’t bother.
OMG I’m just looking at our squad for the 2008-09 season.
Right there is what Barry is looking for
Well, we had Super Kelv…
Bob, I wish I hadn’t followed that link. I’d all but forgotten Olly Lancashire.
J-P Saeijs and Chris Perry
Didn’t score any goals though did he? lazy perma-tanned lightweight.
Had we been docked 10 points in April 2009 when the Charlton game took place? I mentioned those players as we had good players coming through, that was my example of the academy working, buying Fonte 2 seasons later was an example of us buying well.
And you’re still not arguing in a straight line. I answered your initial question several posts back. You have not yet produced a valid response to that.
I thought I did, the game in April 2009 had those 3 players mentioned.
You failed to mention to whether we were docked points in April 2009.
You wopper.
Unlike you, I’ve watched Saints home and away for over 50 years. so when you come out with your usual cobblers, I can offer numerous rebuttals. I’ll let Fowlly have first dibs, but when you rail against him, I can keep this going all night.
