🤪 2019 General Election Discussion :gov:

Cheers @BTripz.

I understand that my claims on what’ll be behind a Tory majority are not popular with latter day Remainers.

The truth always hurts.

I was talking to my parents on Saturday and told them that I had voted tactically because I don’t want Johnson in power. My parents are 75 and read the Daily Mail and will vote Conservative no matter what.

My dad blames austerity on the last Labour government because ā€œthey’ve always borrowed moneyā€. I explained that the current 'tories have borrowed more money than the last Labour Government.

Both my parents have health issues and have problems accessing care, ā€œdespite paying their stamp for all their working livesā€ yet don’t see this as a failing of the current government.

Honestly, it’s like banging your head against a brick wall with them and they’re pretty intelligent people.

Entrenchment eh?

Politicians of all persuasions have deluded themselves into believing that this election will be about anything other than brexit. They are desperately trying to convince us that it’s not, but it is and it will remain so until the issue is settled by our leaving the EU or withdrawing our request to do so. So yes, they do think it will help them, but they are utterly wrong to think it.

It’s coming to something when Peter Hitchens has to be the one to point this out.

It’s frightening that it makes no difference what he says or does, people will still vote for him. How is this a normal way to respond to being shown a photo of a boy with pneumonia on the floor of A&E? He really is ā€œBritain Trumpā€

People should be ashamed to vote for this morally bankrupt blithering idiot. Are they truly happy to endorse this shit-for-brains as their leader for this country. He has nothing to say to the electorate that deviates from the written script he has been given and when faced with something not covered by his stock answers is gripped with the panic of a drowning man. :lou_facepalm_2:

Interesting thread on polls and how they are potentially very misleading.

A more accurate model.

And that was actually a fair shout back in 2017, when the exit date was some way off in the distance. It’s completely unacceptable now.

As I said during the whole Benn Act debacle, the other parties basically wrote most of the Tories’ campaign material for them.

Even those that aren’t in Parliament are playing their part. I don’t think the likes of @Saint-or-sinner really know what happens when they level false accusations of bigotry at people that partook in a legitimate political vote.

Briefly, they say ā€œfuck youā€ (whether out loud or not) and then ignore everything else that has been said.

Apart from that Brexit policy, Labour’s manifesto is pretty fucking decent. Given all that, I’ve no idea why those wanting a Labour government aren’t concentrating on those things, and instead, spend all their time telling the world something it already knows.

Boris Johnson is a massive cock.

What they never bother to enquire about is how comes Boris Johnson, the massive cock, is on course for a majority.

The only reason people are claiming this election isn’t about Brexit is because they don’t want any culpability for a Tory majority if and when it happens.

They own it regardless. If Brexit had been sorted, Labour would contesting this election purely on domestic and foreign policy, two areas where they are head and shoulders above the opposition.

Instead, the impression the public has is of a load of entitled politicians that have tried to thwart their democratic decision.

I’m not the one ignoring what was said, that’s you.

The challenge to find any of them saying what you claim(pre vote) still stands.
I can supply video of all of them saying what i claim they said(as previously shown)

I’ve got this habit, and it’s a bad thing, but I tend to write the things I want to write in posts, not pander to a curated list of demands that stem from points that people think I may not have answered.

I have also seen threads death-spiral into two person slugging contests.

The only reason I mentioned you is because of your campaigning style. I recognise it because I used to be like that myself.

After being on a different side to most of the left on the Brexit debate, I got to find out first hand how futile that was.

If you want a Labour government, I’d advise focusing on promoting the policy. Most of this thread hasn’t been about policy. It’s been about pointing out how nasty or hapless or incompetent or self-serving certain Tories or the Tory collective are. To a converted crowd.

If there is another reason the Tories win this election, it is because too many elements of the left have spent their time competing in a mud-slinging shit-fest.

And the Tories are better at that.

Uhm… well we have 63% remained up here and most likely return no Tories to Westminster… so how does that meet with your logic… before you were all about 52 v48 percent, now you are all about 400 odd versus 200 odd… seem to me what is returning Tories is not remainders, but our stupid FPTP system and loads of poor people having been hoodwinked into believing Brexit is the way out of their shit… when it will deliver 5 more years of it…

The dog whistle of all dog whistles PF. But hey, oven ready, Get Brexit Done!
