🤪 2019 General Election Discussion :gov:

Just had an exchange with my Labour PPC on Twitter.

He’s written to the Lib Dems candidate in Eastleigh and asked her to drop out of the race on the basis that he believes Labour has the best chance to unseat the Tory/Leave candidate.

On previous results and in all of the tactical voting websites I’ve seen the recommendation is to vote Lib Dems if you want to unseat the Tory*. This was my intention.

His claim is that he is seeing a real surge behind the Labour vote on the doorsteps and the ā€œelection dataā€ is telling him so.

The fact is that Labour has been a distant third (or fourth) in Eastleigh for as long as I’ve lived here. Last time out they narrowed the gap to the Lib Dems considerably but that was on the back of the Lib Dems being in coalition and Labour getting a bounce.

So I’m now conflicted. Do I tell my Labour man that he should stand down or show faith?

* we’ve actually lost our old Tory MP - Mims Davies - who was parachuted into the constituency and having won two close elections resigned to spend more time with family and then after spending about 6 days with her family she announced that she’d be standing in a safer seat in Sussex.

Other than my conspiracy feeling that something is afoot, this is the most likely explanation for me.

The other replies that said he’s well-known as a lazy and gaffe-prone tool (as true as they were) don’t answer the question - why send him into public situations at all?

And even with the answer that the press would have been worse if he hadn’t shown, he really didn’t have to mingle. A photo-op on a flooded bridge would have ticked the box.

I still think his handlers are smarter than this.

Romsey and Southampton North have just 2 candidates, Caroline Noakes (Tory) and Craig Fletcher (Lib Dem).

In 2017 Noakes had a majority of 18,000…fuck…a pig with a blue rosette would win here. :rage:

Yup, and the Flower Estates have been gerrymandered into Romsey.

He does have a very trustworthy face…

and a pretty mouth

When you consider there have been two cyber attacks on the government in waiting and no one has blamed Russia(a historical first), it does raise some questions.
Add in Cummings missing years(plus airline), Sasha’s funding, the missing report and it’s already a mess. Then there’s every other mess they’re in, so there must be something planned.

The media raised the ā€œwill you push the button and slaughter millions of innocent peopleā€ question recently and only one said no.
Expect a terror attack/war in 1-3 weeks. Odds should be about even. Take anything higher.

Boris is not having many happy visits, is he?

It must be hard when you* lack such empathy.

When all he had to do previously is learn a jolly after dinner speech and mumble a bit at business dinners having to meet actual people with difficulties must be a shocker.

Kind of nails Farage. You really do need to read his whole thread, not just this one

He may not have the part about the EC registration correct but it shows indications of what ā€œdonorsā€ can expect just before the final date for filing accounts. And no doubt a law suit is inbound to Gib.

Probably hidden away in the same cupboard as Diane Abbot

Milne and Cummings aren’t daft - they know they can be utter liabilities

That is going to be a fun commute having a zealot preach to you every day before you have even managed to get a coffee inside you

Diane Abbot was in Southampton yesterday for an event. She was also at the launch I went to the other day.

Dianne Abbott is out campaigning, she will probably increase her vote as she has done in the past few elections. Apparently she is an utter liability because she got some figures wrong in a live interview a few years ago at a time when she was ill, and was hospitalized soon after. Round about the same time the Chancellor, Philip Hammond in an interview on the Today program got the cost of HS2 wrong by 20 billion, it was glossed over and never mentioned again, yet Dianne Abbott’s mistake is continually rolled out, years later as evidence of her unfitness. Why should this be? Let’s see, Philip Hammond is a white, middle class male, Dianne Abbott is a black, working class female. Hmm!

Boris the Brave hiding in a bakery at Glastonbury today, he was supposed to be going on a 'meet the electorate ’ tour of the town but cancelled it and did a runner because protesters had gathered. He just can’t face up to random members of the public, he only wants stage managed events, packed with his supporters, and a gushing Laura Kuenssberg. So where did he sneak off to? Another fucking primary school, where he had a nice photo op cuddling Rosie the rabbit and singing ā€˜the wheels on the bus go round and round’ with a bunch of 7 year olds. Unbelievable. Will he be allowed to get away with this cowardly behaviour for another month? I wouldn’t bet against it, we certainly can’t rely on the BBC and the rest of the MSM to call him out on it. Just imagine if it was Corbyn behaving like this! The broadcast and print media have been telling us on a daily basis for months that Johnson’s popularity ratings are higher than Corbyn’s, who, we are told, again on a daily basis, is the most unpopular man in the history of the world ever! And yet, in the real world, Jeremy Corbyn spends every day going where he likes, meeting people at random, the occasional heckle but otherwise receiving an overwhelmingly positive reception from the general public. And Johnson spends every day avoiding members of the public, hiding from demonstrators, only meeting real unsupervised members of the public once so far, when he was forced into it due to the flooding disaster in Yorkshire. Where he had his arse well and truly handed to him, and was told his pedigree by some straight talking Yorkshire folk. This doesn’t make any sense. Could it be that we are being lied to by our wonderful free press and media? Surely not!

Maybe he’s attempting to show some consistency.
He’s now got that to add to lying.
An impressive man indeed

The press will claim it shows he cares for education and say it with a straight face to boot. That’s the level we’re at.
