As of tomorrow, I will be a both man again.
So Iāve been having a go on the new PS5. Iāve got their version of Gamepass so have been able to get quite a few exclusives installed on the meagre SSD space available to me.
I think the pad is very good - especially the haptic triggers. The PS4 pad could do most of the rumble tricks that the PS5 one does, but the feedback on the triggers is unique and works well.
I can imagine feedback on triggers becoming an industry standard at some point.
I have watched a few live streams of people who are bloody good at the latest COD releases. Folk who can chat, interect with comments and destroy other players at the same time.
While not all of them seem to be using PS5, the majority are, FWIW.
After about a week of ownership, the PS5 game I like the most is the one that comes with it.
And as usual, the correct answer is
XBox and Playstation.
Now that theyāve both got a games service, initial outlay aside, gaming has never been cheaper to run.
Even the PC looks a bit expensive in comparison.
Ā£2.39 for a game! Well, itās not free, it it?
(I know this stuff isnāt technically free, but Ā£20 odd quid a month is a shitload better than Ā£40 odd quid or more for a game)
Black Friday sale on Playstation today. Very tempted to snaffle GT7 at £43.
Plenty to chew on.
āThis sounds alarming, so I want to reinforce my confidence that this deal will close,ā Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick wroteā¦as he watched he multi million dollar pay day gurgle down the toilet
This has been going on a while. Something of a silly suit, really. The Blizzard part is mostly focused on PCs with the occasional console port.
What Sony is afraid of losing are the army of wankers who only play COD and FIFA.
Interesting news from Digital Foundry over the past couple of weeks. The PS5 is basically outselling the Series X/S by 2 to 1.
A knock-on effect of the sales is that developers are treating the PS5 as the lead issue, and multi-format releases are now turning up in worse shape on the Xbox because developer priority is on the biggest selling platform.
Thatās not the only bad news for Microsoft. At the time of writing, Baldurās Gate 3 is only coming to PS5 because the devs canāt get the Series S to do split-screen, and as platform holder, MS are insisting that features across both consoles are consistent.
They will probably row back on that though.

BBC News - Microsoftās Activision takeover blocked in UK
This quote from Activision made me chuckle - obviously someone is worried their share options wonāt pay out
āThe reportās conclusions are a disservice to UK citizens, who face increasingly dire economic prospects. We will reassess our growth plans for the UK. Global innovators large and small will take note that - despite all its rhetoric - the UK is clearly closed for business.ā
Apparently if we let this through, the cost of living crisis is solved
