Rumours that Jeremy Corbyn is going to start a party. Not sure how much stock I’d put in those, but it would be interesting to see what happens next.
Not sure if this is a good thing for the Tories or for Labour
Tories potentially have a split vote on the left which will play into their hands
Labour finally get shot of the hard left which will make Starmers life easier
It won’t help him win any elections.
I suspect this is how it’ll pan out
Corbyn, for the Tories, the gift that keeps on giving.
Historians will look back over this time and judge him as the single biggest person to facilitate the Tories staying in power.
Don’t forget the power of stupidity and the electorate as well tbf.
Oh yeah, but that all came as a result of Corbyn being well out of his depth - something a few of us predicted right back at the beginning. In fact, some of us predicted that with Corbyn coming to power, Boris would be in power by 2020.
My only regret was being 1 year too late.
Don’t disagree but I’ve come to realise the electorate sometimes gets what it deserves- unfortunately.
There’s a big difference between being out of your depth and having to drink poisoned water. Let’s remember that the 2017 election was very close, and many of the same people that eventually got their Johnson prediction right thought Labour was going to get annihilated at the election.
It’s also worth remembering that result was after two years of some of the vilest political chicanery we’ve seen in our lifetimes.
It’s Starmer who has split the left, not Corbyn.
I think Starmer’s best option is to restore the whip to Corbyn. Don’t think he will though.
I’m not saying Corbyn did split the left - if he sets up a new party though he certainly will.
I don’t think so. Starmer has already alienated anyone vaguely socialist. I certainly wouldn’t vote for the cunt new party or not.
Intentionally so. I think the problem is that some people imagine there’s a silent cohort of quote-unquote left-of-centre people that would love to vote for someone like Keir.
He’ll be made mincemeat of inside a campaign. The wooden fuck loves to talk about his time as DPP. That will be talked about, including the balls he dropped. Still not quite sure how he couldn’t find enough evidence to bring Savile to court.
So because you don’t like 1 leader, who isn’t too long for the job, you’re happy to split the left for the next few generations?
Surely you’d prefer Keir in charge than the Conservatives?
A Labour party that removes the whip from it’s former socialist leader, abandons the idea of nationalising key sectors, fucks the flag for polling numbers, backs privatisation of the NHS?
Nah, I’m good thanks. Whoever leads the Labour party in the direction it’s going can get to fuck.
As for Keir v Tories, I don’t think he can win that fight from his central pedestal and that choice is like asking which shitty stick you want to be whacked with.
The thing is, he’s more likely to win from the centre, than from the left - which is why he’s had to distance the party from Corbyn. Corbyn really did screw up the Labour Party, alienating the members that brought it to power in the 90’s. We also have a population of working class who think they’re middle class due to the increase in QOL for the majority.
If the left are happy with the Tories, then carry on - otherwise people need to be much, much smarter than they’re being right now. Cutting off your nose to spite your face is not a tactic that cuts it.
He’s not going to win. He won’t get Scotland back. He’s unlikely to get the Red Wall back and I’d argue that if the Tories do fuck up enough so that he actually does win, it won’t be because of anything he has done, and any other Labour leader would probably win under the same circumstances.
