Charles Dickens was a journalist before he became an author, he worked for two local newspapers. Skates would have you believe that he worked for the Portsmouth News, but actually it was the Bicester Times and it was the Worcester Times.

Yep as soon as he could walk Dickens left Skatetown (2 years old), which shows from an early age he could identify a shithole when he saw it.
