We need a building a or structure to rival our rival’s surely? Childish yes but it also has a serious point of showing our intentions to stay and continue to be the South’s heart, I know our council’s cruise money being waster is akin to Aberdeen’s wasting it on their oil reserves so now is the time to show off a bit.

Aren’t they going to be painting Albion Towers Red and White in honour of Saints …surely a statement of intent to rival the Spinnaker Tower

We have the Swaythling Fag Butt.

I would like to see us celebrate our illustrious history by erecting a building shaped like the arse end of the Titanic, teetering above the waves briefly before being consigned to the depths.

We could house a Subway and a Tesco Express in a nearby iceberg.

If I lie down and touch myself I’ll show you something to rival the Spinnaker Tower…

#5

On a serious note, you are right. It does grate on the nerves sometimes when you see news intro’s showing off the Spinnaker, HMS Victory and the Mary Rose.

We have patchy remnants of the old city walls, The Bargate which looks well out of sorts with all the new development surrounding it and a rather feeble Mayflower monument celebrating our ‘not strictly accurate’ claim as the final departure point for the Pilgrim Fathers voyage to America.

I know we have the best shopping in the south blah blah but having the West Quay Centre as the main focal point of the Southampton skyline, doesn’t really generate feelings of pride.

#6

What we need is a monorail.

#7

The Spinnaker Tower is like silicon mammeries on an old slag.

#8

No fucking ambition, Barry. You waltz on here having your usual moan about our home city, yet bring nothing of your own.

I present The New Walls. Capitalises on our heritage. Americans will think we’re great again.

AND WE’RE GOING TO MAKE POMPEY PAY FOR IT!

#9

At least it will create some jobs but getting Pompey to pay could take a few hundred years.

#10

what about England’s biggest mosque?

#11

What you on about you slag, our City the City I love is shit, dull and absolutely 100% the crappest for its size in the nation, for tourist’s what is there? For residents what bulidings do we have that the World no the Country no even that the county no Jesus not even that the citizens of the place that can take pride in?

Its fucking woeful and the skates have a well better City for local pride, we have a clock tower and a wall which in the grand scheme of things is embarrassing to mention.

Is there a chance the track could bend?

#13

I think pap has forgotten the whole of the New Forest is 100% red and white…and well within the city bounds, our municipal parkland…The Lungs of Southampton!

#14

Haven’t forgotten. Just didn’t want to take the piss _too _much in the early land grab

#15

Could be worse, you could be the Poole-Bournemouth-Christchurch conurbation, old people and beaches, that’s all we have!!

#16

Not on your life, my Sotonian friend.

#17

No “land-grab” involved always been Sotonian heartland.

#18

Are you going to myseriously disappear after the track is built too??

#19

Its embarrassing it really is.

#20

And if it were up to Barry we’d get rid of that…
