Fantastic album. I played it to death when it came out, took me some time to notice that the A and B sides on my copy both have the same label.
I love Paddy McAloonās writing. This classic album from 1985 was a stunning piece of work, how could it ever be improved? Well for the remixed reissue in 2007 Paddy McAloon recorded 8 acoustic versions of his songs which, it could be argued did just thatā¦this is one of my favouritesā¦
Doing an acoustic set at the Joiners in November if you fancy it? Me and the Mrs going.
Yes I do. Iāll book now.
Done.
Thanks to a video game Iāve been playing, I have discovered a genre called Electro Swing. Itās 1920s sounds with 21st century electronic beats and itās a lot of fun.
This little ear-worm has been living in my lugholes for a couple of weeks.
Why didnāt anyone tell me it was out and made no.1 in the album charts?
And who knew there are still charts?
If Iād heard this version of Hejira before I would have remembered it. You can take it, this live version was new to me this week. It was recorded at an Amnesty International Benefit in 1986 to a hostile audience who had been expecting a succession of heavy rock.
Joni shut them up with an intensity foreign to modern mega starsā¦they donāt come close.
One of my guilty pleasures is American Idol
In the sandpit we never got any of the UK alternatives back in the noughties.
We fell in love with the show when Scotty McCreery won and became a huge C&W star.
It has certainly declined in its levels since Brian May & Queen met (and sang with runner up that year - Adam Lambert - instead of Queen this year we got Houtie & the Blowfish.
Anyway this year Abi Carter won her audition was Billy Eilish and was stunning.
But she also sang this, one of THE most difficult songs to cover(and one which Eric, Mrs P_F & I saw performed live before causing the band to miss their flight to Beirutā¦
She knocked this outta the park
Maybe the next Taylor Swift? Nah but talented
As my timeline tells me its exactly a year since I saw the Great One at The O2, Iām going to spend the evening going through the whole catalogue.
This will do for starters.
And believe me, I might be witnessing one.
What am I listening to? High quality HISS now that Iāve cleaned the tape heads.
Found this in the bottom of a drawer this morning.
I trust you demagnetised the heads as well?
That hardly needs askingā¦of course.
So I remember some awful stuff Willow Smith released as a kid, likely foisted on her by her famous parents. My attention was brought to this by Rick Beato and she has definitely improved somewhat. Great voice, great band, great groove.
If you like Willow you might like Caroline Polachekās Tiny Desk Concert if you missed it late last yearā¦similar vibe and another great bandā¦
