ADVOCAAT BACKS VAN DIJK STANCE
Holland manager Dick Advocaat has given his backing to Virgil van Dijk as he looks to secure a move from Southampton before the summer transfer window closes.
The Netherlands international centre back has been training away from the first team, has played no part in pre-season matches and has told manager Mauricio Pellegrino he wants to leave.
Speaking to Voetbalzone magazine about Van Dijk’s attempts to secure a move, Advocaat said: ”You can condemn it, but come on, if you can earn five times as much at a top English club, then I understand you’re going to take action."

Five times as much? Really? Yes of course anyone would want to earn more money. No brainer. But there is also the small matter of being under contract. Basically he is saying that players should not be tied to a legal document that they were more than happy to sign at one point.

I had a look at what Liverpool players are on. Not many on £100k plus per week. Clyne is on £60k. If the figures are true van Dijk will be lucky to double his wages. I can see why he doesn’t want to hand in his transfer request! Wouldn’t want to lose that chunk of cash as he won’t be earning Neymaresqe sums of cash.
