Draw a foot wide line off the back heel of a defender
If any part of the attacker breaks the plane then its offside
The biggest issue in the offside has to be the determining the point at which the ball is played

I would say pick the frame determined to be the point when the ball is played, then take 5 frames either side, if they are onside in the majority then the player is ultimately onside.
Edit: Based on Sky Sports filming frame rate, 10 frames would be about 0.2 seconds real time. So maybe 2 frames either way would be sufficient, 3/5 frames onside = player onside.
It should only be the feet they judge it on. Normally a forward will be leaning forward and a defender away from his goal.
Then it is subjective again.
Is the problem VAR or is it the offside interpretation?
You make it the feet then the arguments will remain.
Right now it is logical, just needs to be accurate
Iâm referring to when they draw the line. That is far less subjective than someones shoulder or elbow being the determining factor.
I must have turned into Ladyboy Phil as I dont understand the offside rule anymore.
How are these not Red Cards?
What is the point of VAR?

Well for me Leicesterâs penalty was another VAR oddity. Refâs call was a pen but on VAR it appeared the attacker tripped himself and fell. Tater said it went on the Refâs call, surely if it shows he got it wrong it should have been ruled out.
Absolutely. Why canât the ref and VAR see that between them? I suspect itâs because, unlike Rugby where ref and video ref work as a team, asking for help and discussing, in football they work almost independently, often not wanting to overrule the ref, or alternatively wanting to make a point or, frequently, VAR not bothering. This was a clear red. In Saints game, AA should have had a pen, their prn was body to hand and VAR just looked to back the ref rather than applying the guidance. VAR is useless
While I agree with everything youâve posted, youâre missing the point entirely. VAR is only useless to us and all the other âlesserâ clubs. It isnât there to ensure fairness, itâs there to provide officials with the means to decide the match winner. Itâs only ever been there for that purpose.
Yep like the rule, if the ball deflects of a part of the body onto the arm itâs not considered to be a pen (for a top 6 club) but nailed on pen for other clubs.
I wish theyâd made this clear at the beginning of the season.
NooooooooâŚ
Trials of budget VAR alternative to be extended -
Wonât apply to us.
Not just us then
The second they do abolish it in the UK, the first ropey decision and the pundits will be screaming for a technological solution
VARâŚâHow do I hate thee, let me count the waysâ
RefereeâŚgrow a pair of balls. Stand up for your on-field decisions, it doesnât take five minutes to identify a clear and obvious error.
âIts not football anymoreâ as they sang at SMS today
4 errors, my arse
