I know the place a bit. I sometimes worked on a site there. Almost no-one that worked with me lived in LB. During Young Adult #1’s first year, I stayed in her gaff by London Bridge and commuted to Leighton Buzzard _from _London. Most people go the other way. 'Tis a dormitory town, as are most places within an hour of the capital on a good rail link.

There was video of David Duke, a prominent White Supremacist/Klansmen, saying “this is why we voted Trump”. There were people in Trump/MAGA hats marching alongside people openly wiedling Swastika’s and give Sieg Heils.
There were militia baring Confederate flags/symbols better armed than the police strolling around.
Trumps dad was a klansmen, and there were strong White Supremacist showings at plenty of Trump rallies.
His Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, ran Breitbart and openly courted the Alt-Right.
It ain’t no fucking accident.

Worth remembering how heavy handed the police went in Ferguson, where the protests were in reaction to a man being shot dead by the police.
Charlottesville was in reaction to the removal of a statue of* a former slave owner, and Confederate leader.
Fucking Tamir Rice (12) was shot dead for having a toy gun.
Puts paid to the bullshit about economic anxiety causing people to vote Trump, this gear is fucking expensive.
Let’s call it what it fucking is, straight up, unabashed racism.

I am a bit bit speechless to be honest… I went from tears to anger, to tears and anger watching that. So much hate born out of ignorance. So much inhumanity. I feel ashamed that there are humans out there capable of such hideousness. Its why I get so fucked off when sensitive issues around cultural integration etc are treated as a suitable topic for wind up etc…because its presents the ‘acceptable’ face of prejudice and ignorance and its how it all starts. We need to fight this ignornace where ever we see it, wherever it manifests itself…

I am with you 100%. Ignorance like this should be challenged everywhere at every opportunity. Over on Fiverweb Verbal is currently fighting the good fight and giving their resident white supremacist Sour Mash a proper going over. Not before time. He has got away with spouting racist bile for months without getting properly called on it. Even the well known keyboard warrior hypocondriac was leaving him alone. The bloke has been supporting Tommy Robinson of late and laying it on quite thickly. Good to see him challenged at last.
To go from having your first black President to this pathetic excuse for a human being must be hard to deal with for any decent, liberal American. Seeing these assholes parading around with more weaponary than your average marine, spouting their inhuman racist bollocks is sickening.

It’s easy to underestimate quite how deeply entrenched racism is in America.
A sizable chunk of the population lived in an America that was openly segregated.
It’s also worth remembering, that Nazism was never dealt with in quite the same way there, as it was in Europe. Americans were so focused and intent on defeating Communism and labelling it as evil, that the same aversion to Nazism in the US never quite stuck.
In fact, it’s baffling common to see Americans argue that Nazis are actually left-wing ('coz ya’know, they were Nationalist Socialists), and lump them in with Communists. Despite the fact that actually, in most places in Europe it was Communists who formed the strongest resistance to Nazism - and was a part of the reason why so many European states favoured left wing governments in the immediate aftermath of WWII.
It is, quite simply, a White Lash.
He just cannot be seen to ‘lose’ anything without firing from the hip in retaliation.
He’s a piece of work they bloke.
Might have done him some good to pause for breath here, though.
