Oddly enough, I reckon North Korea holds all the cards here, for one reason.

China.

Back in the Korean War, it was the sight of huge Chinese forces that had the US scuttling back south. As an aside, I personally believe that this is yet another situation that the US has created and maintained itself. The policy of containment entrenched positions. If their worst case scenario happened, that all of Korea became communist, then there’s a good chance that like China, it would enter the world economy and hopefully start to democratise. It has continued the sabre rattling over the years. North Korea is as distant as it ever was from getting back into the world.

Trump can’t drop an H bomb on NK without triggering a global conflagration with China, a situation which is already a tinderbox due to Obama’s Pivot East and the tussling over the South China Sea.

Or perhaps that’s the mad cunt’s plan all along. Suppose it’s one way of settling their debts.

They are both as mad as each other. The really scary thing is that normally, the way things are now we would all be shitting it. I am old enough to remember the Cuban missile crisis. That was really scary at the time, the whole world was going to bed at night wondering what the next day would bring. But nobody really seems to care about this current Trump v Kim battle of wills. I think it probably is because we have heard so much bullshit and lies from the Trumpster he has become a figure of fun to everyone outside the US. Nobody takes him seriously,(apart from our Prime Minister). Now that’s a sobering thought. Announced today that the USA is going ahead with massive sea, land and air exercises on the Korean peninsula in a couple of weeks time, tens of thousands of US troops will be involved. This is suddenly no longer funny. Tory MPs tonight saying that we will be obliged to join a war in support of Trump if it all kicks off. Of course, the reality is we have no choice, if we don’t we will go to the back of the queue post Brexit. That is the status of our country now. Desperately grovelling at the feet of a nutter like Donald Trump who, unbelievably is the leader of the so called free world. The rest of the civilised world keep their distance,(rightly), recognizing him for the absolute retard he is. But our government, on our behalf, give him credibilty and proudly say they stand ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with him. The rest of the civilized countries shake their heads in wonderment, at a once great country reduced to acting the role of ‘fluffer’ to a certifiable inadequate sociopath like Donald Trump. The reality is that the rest of the European continent can’t wait to get rid of us, distance themselves, ‘nothing to do with us any more guv’. And hand on heart who could blame them. It grieves me to say it but our country is fast becoming reduced to a laughing stock. There are hard times ahead for all of us, and i suspect a lot of humble pie will be eaten by many, one or two of them members of this forum. :lou_is_a_flirt:

Part of me buys into the Kim Jong Un is a walking ego who has Guam-reaching missiles stereotype, and part of me thinks that Kim Jong Un has cleverly stopped his people talking of the draconian UN sanctions that have just been slapped on his country.

Part of me buys into the Trump is a walking ego who has the missile codes sterotype, and part of me thinks that Trump has cleverly stopped is talking of Russia and of being impeached.

Perhaps this escalation suits them both?

Perhaps we’re fucked?

The only exit route (which I’m sensing is already being lined up) Trump has is that of being able to point to his tough stance on trade with China that forced them to get involved. If he can say that he forced China to solve North Korea he’ll have a victory of sorts.

Then again, perhaps we’re fucked.

North Korea, and the Kim’s is an insoluble foreign policy nightmare for the US. It’s been the same for 30 years. It’s just the first time a sitting US president has used that same language. There are checks in place, the president can’t just declare war it has to approved by congress. So no need to panic yet.

Any president who when presented with a golden opportunity to condemn torch-bearing Nazis, declines it, is clearly a dangerous man who is too worried about losing the support of the other dangerous people who vote for him.

America is broken.

Can anybody see TM waving a piece of paper and saying " peace in our time?"

For what it is worth, didnt I read a quote from a Government spokesperson the other day saying we wouldnt support Trump over Korea?

I don’t know. Did you?

Yes, but then I can imagine her doing a u-turn and ordering all Trident subs in play to launch their nukes.

She’ll probably fuck that up completely too and send them the co-ordinates for Leighton Buzzard or something.

Silver linings and all that.
