That should read, ‘But surely the British used to be better than that’ And yes, back in our day they probably were. But sadly times have changed. I am approaching the winter of my life,(without being too maudlin), and I must confess I probably do spend a bit of time reflecting on this stuff. It really does pain me to say this but British people, in the round, were far more tolerant of other cultures sixty years ago when I was growing up than they are now. As a nation we have regressed, which to me is not only shocking, but very sad. Our politicians are to blame of course, they know which buttons to press when they are under pressure and need scapegoats to deflect and distract from their blatant piss taking. It will only get worse, it’s tried and tested and works every time, sadly too many of the English really believe that the reason they are constantly treading water is down to the people that don’t look like them and don’t speak like them. And this is being ramped up big style. Just look at our new Home Secretary, standing up and making a speech proudly proclaiming that she dreams every night of a Telegraph front page splash showing a flight full of refugees taking off for Rwanda. Probably with her Rampant Rabbit on warp speed as she dreams it. Thirty years ago her parents would probably have been on the flight! This is what this country has been reduced too, people need to wake up and stop trying to defend it.
It’s an epidemic everywhere this. The political class feed off our fear/loathing/struggle so why would they want to change anything that is so effective it continues to serve their type minute after minute, day after day, year after year?
When the population stand up together and say, “hang on, this isn’t how I want to live” will the whole deck of cards fall over.
And when this happens (I pray for my lifetime) then we might, might just receive the bounties of the good in the world.
We tried that when they asked us if we wanted to remain part of the ongoing European single-state project, and the MPs refused point blank to accept the decision given. That has led directly to the utter dross that we now have in charge.
No, it might just be the case that the electorate could be largely ill educated, self/centred fuckwits who are stupid enough to be hoodwinked by the lies of sociopathic politicians who only want power, money and don’t give a toss about Joe Public.
I agree that some people within the electorates of the world could be those things.
I have, for more years than I can remember now, wanted to fight for the sovereign rights of humanity only to come to the realisation that most, not all, are literally living in a construct that serves them plenty well with the status quo.
I believe the Romans called it Bread and Circus and this theory is alive and kicking still today
I’d say that one of the main reasons the vote was won was because of the opportunity for populism which was paraded and exalted by the very same people who ended up in power. They weren’t put there as a result of a failure to implement, they were elected there as a result of it their opportunism. The fact that they didn’t know how to proceed with it, is indicative of their collective ignorance when faced with getting what they wanted into legislation and agreement. and part of that populism is getting rid of anyone who dares to question them, for such utter shite reasons as not being patriotic enough, or “talking Britain down”. This has left a dearth of ineptitude and incoherence that we see today. There were some good opinion pieces in the Torygraph and the Times a the weekend on this very point. Brexit has left us with low grade populist politicians who would rather bang a drum and talk shite than embark upon any form of progress. They got Brexit, but when they did they didn’t know what the fuck to do with it.
Republicans not getting the sweeping mid-term victories they expected. Trump supporters not doing well. Key factor thought to be the Republicans’ intention to cancel the insurrection inquiry if they get a majority
