:tories: Tories in trouble?

My God, does bum sex make you homeless? Better tell the missus to grab her hot water bottle.

As an aside, it is bloody cold. I did a sponsored sleep out a few weeks ago, and it was not nice in the slightest, I have to say, and that was only for one night.

I did a one night charity sleepout a few years back as well and I couldn’t believe how cold it got.

It was an eye opener.

I worked for a homeless charity in Southampton for a bit last year. I don’t know about the rest of the country but this particular charity were told by the police that there is a bed available for every homeless person sleeping rough in the city. Anyone sleeping rough did so because either they didn’t want help offered to them or they refused to tackle their addictions which were a condition before they got somewhere to stay. I know there are more complex issues than that but that was a bit of an eye opener and changed my opinion somewhat.

That can’t be true, because as Pap says 100% of people are on the streets due to Tory policy.

Oh no, it **MUST ** be true.

The police said so :lou_lol:

That is correct Hypo, but the problem is when the addicted and it is a disease, cannot get help so they cannot get a bed for the night.

Surely it would be better to help them regardless and not put conditions on it - IYou can’t help anyone if you don’t get them through the front door in the first place

Especially given that many of the addiction problems are going to have been triggered by other factors, _including _living on the streets.

Catch 22 for those people. The system fucking destroys them, then moralises on the conditions on which they can be re-admitted.

Without wanting to sound like Thatcher, there are still a number who refuse all help and insist on living on the street.

We need to look at the way we treat both addiction and mental health - I’m sure that as part of a long term plan to reduce pressure on the NHS and to assist people who are at their lowest point, this caring government has prioritised funding to support both areas…

I’m sure there are others better qualified to comment than myself but I believe that those with experience in this area have said that the best success rate is to enforce a zero tolerance policy to drugs and alcohol within shelters. It’s not perfect by any means but I was told by someone who runs a scheme in Southampton that this was the most effective way of helping people.

The plight of a desperate mother who faces four months of benefits sanctions, leaving her with no food or nappies for her two-year-old has been raised at Holyrood by MSP, Fulton MacGregor.

On Saturday, we revealed how a baby bank founder has been ā€œoverwhelmedā€ by the public response following a heartbreaking plea to help a mum feed her toddler.

Bernadette Murphy, of Lanarkshire Baby Bank, posted a video online detailing the plight of a desperate mother who faces four months of benefits sanctions, leaving her with no food or nappies for her two-year-old.

Obviously I think everyone is against the sanctions that get given out to that extreme, but I am interested to know what she’s done to get 4 months of sanctions. I can’t see it on any of the articles.

Pretty sure she’s ginger.

Election expenses scandal being covered on Channel4 news now. Potential election theft. They’re looking at South Thanet.

And in other news, something else that isn’t going away are the Fitness for Work assessments for the disabled

Just finished watching the Michael Crick report on election expenses. Looks like they’ve got them bang to rights in South Thanet, at least. They beat Nigel Farage by breaking the rules.

Why only 4 months then?

Waiting for the baby’s hair to grow. Could be longer.
