:tories: Tories in trouble?

Just heard a dentist explain that tooth checks are pointless.

If you were in a position of authority you’d think that you would learn to do some research before opening your mouth and allowing something ludicrous to spill out.

I’m not in favour of a dehumanising method such as tooth checks for age verification but surely we can’t just take everyone’s word for it that they’re under 18?

We’re talking fourteen refugees so far.

Fourteen. And in the time it has taken the government to allow them through, other countries have taken in millions of refugees, children or otherwise. My MP has been campaigning to get the kids in for ages.

Look at the Sun today. The country is officially a disgrace.

How many should we take and should we make any sort of attempt to verify their age?

The government is committed to taking 20,000 over five years.

I don’t think that’s enough. Don’t think we can take as many as the Germans (and as humanitarian a position as theirs is, it has caused internal problems), but we’re getting massively outdone by them on the compassion stakes.

I tend to agree. I do think we need to put an absolute number on it though. By all means make it higher than 20k but there does need to be a limit - and yes, there’s no ‘fair’ way of letting in (for example) number 99,999 and closing the gate at number 100,001.

I’m happy to admit 20k is low though.

Given that there are 10,000 sat in Calais, the French figures are pretty low

With many Brexit voters citing immigration as their main voting issue, aren’t some of the 52% going to feel betrayed that we are now showing sympathy and support to some of these homeless children?

Nah, do you realise just how hard it is to come by a decent chimney sweep?

Gary Lineker getting a lot of serious abuse online for a tweet that he sent earlier after the first edition of the Sun came out.

“The treatment by some towards these young refugees is hideously racist and utterly heartless. What’s happening to our country?”

UKIP spokesman Patrick O’Flynn has called for him to be sacked from Match of the Day!

Gary is standing his ground though, rounding on one critic, telling him, “I’ll say what i want on my own twitter feed, thanks. However old they are they’re bloody human beings, like you…well sort of”.

Quality.

Checking their teeth wasn’t Davies’ preferred method of age verification.

Apparently he initially wanted to cut them in half and count their rings.

Gary has a point - in the last year the country has come across on occasions as nasty, stuck in the past, and uncaring.

As well as having a shit football team.

Hammond and May are apparently at odds. Over a couple of things. Big things.

This may not end well. It could end a lot sooner.

Checking teeth?

Didn’t someone else come up with that idea about 80 years ago?

Didn’t end that well did it!

And yet today we have Jack Straw telling The Daily Mail that he would never have ruled out dental tests to establish refugees’ ages while he was in government.

Further proof, if any more were needed, that the sooner these right wing reactionary Blairites are thrown out of the Labour Party, the better. Some of them are clearly to the right of Margaret Thatcher.

It has been a little while since we checked in on our troubled Tories. A leaked treasury document reveals that there is a 16bn black hole in the budget.

Can’t say I’m surprised, given how much of Osborne’s budget had to be abandoned. How much, for example, were they looking to save on those tax credit cuts? Were they counting on revenues from forced academisation of schools, and the sale of land or facilities to private sector?

Either way, I’ve been saying that the Conservatives have never been economically competent for years now. That really doesn’t look like changing.

Theresa Mayhem’s performance at PMQs today was truly awful. She looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. She is incapable of answering any question put to her. Jeremy Corbyn ridiculed her on her Brexit stance, comparing her to Baldrick, suggesting her “cunning plan is to have no plan”. The leaked recording of her speech to Goldman Sachs bankers in which she told them companies would leave if the UK pulled out of the single market, and she wanted the UK to take a lead in Europe, has only added to her fast growing reputation for dishonesty and utter cluelessness. The way our country is now being run gives a whole new meaning to the word ‘shambolic’!

Fully aware that there are a fair few of us left-leaning types on here, and in the near-certain knowledge that someone will say “well, you would say that, wouldn’t you?”, it truly was awful.

Most people get better at a job with practice. She seems to be getting worse.

The following question wasn’t asked, sadly. Before anyone tags me sexist, I’d ask exactly the same question of Jezza if he rolled into Parliament rocking a bumgrape choker. There would likely be more hospitals too

Classic example of why I do not trust/believe any politician

She is being poorly advised on Brexit, fashion, public speaking, kindness and body language.

It’s like a car crash in an old dress - with matching accessories_._
