Tampon tax, eh? That’ll only piss off half of the fertile electorate.
I thought Cameron opposed the tax on sanitary products, and it was an EU proposal? Correct me if I’m wrong.
Amendment to the Finance Bill.
All but three Tories that voted opposed abolishing the tax, whipped to do so.
Spot on Mr. Bulsara.
This thread has made me angry, and I’ve edited, re-edited and finally shelved my planned reponse.
People I respect on here are exhibiting such ignorance (willful or otherwise) of the real world lives of the humans they share this country with, that it makes me want to spit.
Open your doors, go outside, speak to people who are in the shit. They won’t bite and you might fucking learn something.
Right, gotcha, so the vote was about reopening negotiations. I think the story I read from yesterday was that they were open to negotiations but it would be unlikely they would win the debate.
I’ve not had a chance to read the EU’s argument on this, but it seems like such an un-EU thing to do, whatever that means!
How the fuck can tampons be a luxury item?Madness.
Cameron opposed the Sugar tax coz it would unfairly penalise the lower paid. No, of course he is no saint, but just occasionally some factual balance is needed on here.
No to sugar tax. Yes to tampon tax. I wonder how he’d feel about taxing pork products?
Nothing to do with the likely reaction of the massively powerful food producers then? Easy to play the “We can’t do this - poor people eat sugar!” line, but I seriously doubt that was Cameron’s motivation.
Tampons are of course made by small companies such as Procter and Gamble, Energizer and of course all the supermarkets.
That would be like taxing his own children

Saw that yesterday. Although not right, unless we see the full accounts and debts the company has had in the past etc, it just sounds like standard accountancy, the same that every company in the UK does.
Well at least Sir Peter is taking a salary and paying proper income tax as opposed to taking dividends like these tax dodging IT contractors

I take a salary. I also get taxed on any dividends I take, personal tax, which kills me twice a year. If you think it’s a dodge, try getting ready for Jan 31st after you’ve just done Christmas, or alternatively, I’ll send you my tax bill
Personal tax aside, I paid more Corp Tax than the chancellor’s dad.
Yeah, but you pay much less corporation tax, personal tax and NI than you would PAYE. But then we couldn’t pay ourselves full PAYE as we don’t know how much we’ll earn in a year.

So does anyone running a business properly. But then, we also have much more to cover, personally, that a PAYE staff member will typically get. Holiday pay. Sick pay. Expenses to do your job. And I do pay PAYE as well, because I know how much I’m salaried.
Why am I explaining employee vs run-your-own-business to a Tory, exactly?
You’re not explaining anything to me, I’m well aware of how my company works.
If you don’t think even with all that you are not far better off than if paid full whack PAYE then frankly, you’re delusional.
Out of interest, do you pay yourself above £10,600 PAYE? Genuine question.
