When I worked in a multi national 15 years ago ANY complaint like this would have led to dismissal or at least the death of your career. But to get promoted straight after?

A person fucks up but the company realises it will cost a fortune to fire the guy so promote him to another position where the underlings should be able to control what his actions will actually do and modify the response so that the inadequacy of the person are not shown.
This not only undermines the company but the workers who continually have to correct the so called boss.
