I wonder if Barry is a Derry man or a Londonderry man.
You havenât answered the question Pap, Iâll answer yours as Iâm not afraid to answer and I know my history. Londonderry is the correct name for the City but it people accept both or call it stroke City.
If you were getting a bus to Londonderry or Derry, what would it say on the front?
4 years - why should that make any difference to him, or the hardliners in the Russian Government? And why does it matter so much about Ukraine joining as they already have Nato on their doorstep anyway.
I donât know Pap, what hand do I wipe my arse with?
Latvia and Estonia didnât go through coups in 2014 and didnât become a US client state.
Seriously, do your own research. Youâre putting less effort in than Barry and have a lower word count.
No Ukraine was a client state like Belarus before 2014.
No I was living in Queenstown.
If you get a bus to Londonderry or Derry, it says both. The modern bus signs even rotate the terms.
Theyâre more sensible over there than you about these things. If someone tried to say it was definitely one or the other there would be uproar.
Besides, no-one on this thread has spelt any city name in Russian or Ukrainian. The only person that came close was a chap called @Cyril_Lick. You ever heard of him?
So Russia should be happy if Finland join Nato now as well, as theyâve not been through a coup.
My bet is they wonât.
Have you had a stroke?
The questions heâs asking have already been answered, so I am loathe to answer them again but anyway:
The reason Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia donât present the same issue that Ukraine does is because they are almost entirely encircled by strong ally Belarus along with the Kaliningrad enclave. In case of conflict with NATO these countries would be very quickly cut off from the rest of NATO and have a border which is relatively easily defendable by Russia. Furthermore this border doesnât provide easy access to the Caspian sea pipelines which are the lifeblood of the Russian economy.
Thatâs not to say that Russia is happy about these states being aligned with NATO. It happened at a time when Russia was relatively weak following the exploits of the puppet Yeltsin. If it happened today it might be a different story but we will see what happens with Finland, to get a feel for that.
Good explanation - thanks for answering.
That doesnât detract from a sovereign state shouldnât be invaded and a sovereign state is free to choose its destiny.
As he said, those questions have been answered before. I mentioned the Kaliningrad enclave in my first response to you.
If youâd had your eyes open and/or werenât being wilfully dumb you might have picked up on that.
Did you know that one of the problems with being wilfully dumb is that people will believe you?
Keep up the project manager level of debate. All surface. No detail.
Surely you mean Tahuna?
Isnât that the historic German place Konigsberg?
No.
You just donât explain things very well @pap, thatâs all - you spend too much time being confrontational and trying to make yourself look good.
Not by your logic, Barry.
In the real world however, yes it is. Itâs part of what the Germans call âthe lost landsâ. Thereâs a campaign to get them back.
