đŸ‡ș🇩 The War/Invasion in/of Ukraine

Of course but one is right and one is wrong.

Pap they’re fantasy choices, boyish and naive, i wouldn’t sell out Ukraine like you’re proposing, if a nuclear war happened it would destroy all and what would Putin gain?

That’s a bit black and white. No shades of grey at all?

So your answer out of

  1. Throw Ukraine under the bus
  2. World War 3 (with it clearly implied that nukes will happen)

Is World War 3.

These are not fantasy choices. These are the very matters much more sensible* people than you are considering every single day.

* It’s admittedly a low bar to clear based on your current posts.

Pap the bigger picture is North Korea have nuclear arms, this gives them the open door to nuke South Korea, what then?
This has to be turned away from the threat of nuclear war to a conventional one, hard to do but possible, also Putin won’t stop there as we all know from dictators.
I must say its very Chamberlianesque, history will show this rests on one man. Surrendering Ukraine so we can have happy lives isn’t really very humane is it? It doesn’t have to be World War III or a sellout, unfortunately an attritional war and other proxies will happen until the west wins or Putin is given an out that he can sell to the public as a win,
I wrote above on some of the possibilities.

I wasn’t asking about the bigger picture. I put you on the same spot that many Western leaders are in right now.

I’m just glad they’re looking at the actual picture, and not the bigger whattabouttery one.

Wonderful.
Straight off topic to North Korea.

I’m sure that’s what Western leaders are thinking about now.

The North Korean angle. In the Ukraine war.

Its relevant as they have the same weapons and are also a belligerent state.

Don’t be soft sell out you know what I mean

Escalation
Russia just turned off the Gas pipeline

Certainly to Poland & waiting to see if Germany.

Doesn’t seem to have made the internet at time of posting but weren’t Poland looking to walk away from Russian gas by year end anyway.

They may have just got in first for the shits n giggles?

That is actually good news, this means although we’re going to get rationed and fuel will be scarce it appears to be a race to effectively sanction each other and hurt each others economy and not the Russian’s releasing a bomb.

He says, not living in Poland.

Do you know how far out the replacement energy is?

Clue. It’s not anytime this year.

If they turn Germany off things are going to get very bad for German industry - very quickly.

I think their laws mandate that the commonfolk are the last to be deprived, meaning that the firms, who have massive comparative energy requirements, are not going to be able to do business.

The word is that they have been stockpiling & the reserves are 70% full. Should be enough to cover the (maybe coming soon) summer.
Means the LPG Tankers will no doubt be queueing up from Qatar to unload.

Also heard today that (quelle surprise) US opened a big new LPG terminal in the Gulf recently.

I appreciate that this might be a controversial view on here, but I am much happier having my energy security in the hands of the yanks than mad Vlad

Yeah totally agree.
Except for the fact that on a low income (ie nothing atm) a 50% increase in LPG is crippling
a 60% increase in the Gas for heating & Cooking is a nightmare.
And IF the tourists ever come back, will they want their trips to cost 35% more to cover the cost of Diesel.

Now the argument is that the West should never have opened their legs to Russia all those years ago, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It’s a bastard, no doubt

However maybe this will end up being the wake up call the world needs - supply chains have to be in your own hands or at the very least those of trusted ally

We’ll be affected, you want Ukraine liquidated so you can have a boiled egg and some heating? You’re lovely you, charm the birds from the trees.
