šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦ The War/Invasion in/of Ukraine

The problem on this thread is that people have come with opinions already entrenched be it pro- Russian, anti-Russian, anti- west, anti- govt etc and are broadly incapable/ unwilling to move from them

Everyone is dying on the hill of their own making and is unwilling to come down

This is the internet way

If only.

Trying to maintain your own opinion on this one is quite an ask. Most people just take the easy route and parrot whatever is on the BBC.

And that information is coming from very few sources. So if someone is relying on a single source Azov opinion, is it their opinion, is it the BBC’s opinion or is everyone in the chain just a multiplier of that single source?

The entire BBC content isn’t being provided by a single Asov source - you are sat on you anti-BBC mountain, come on down - its not so bad

I’m not saying that I don’t care about what’s happening in the Ukraine. But I clearly don’t care sufficiently to actually delve into all the circumstances and form a real opinion about it, and I do feel slightly guilty about that. My excuse to myself is that it would be utterly impossible to get to anything resembling the full truth so trying to do so would be futile, but I still have this nagging doubt that I ought to give more of a shit because people are dying than getting annoyed because fuel prices are shooting up.

Thanks to Barry, we’ve been following the Ukraine story in some form for years, long before the invasion, so background really wasn’t that hard for me to remember or for Barry to forget.

Right now we’re in the fog of war, I don’t speak Russian or Ukrainian, so with the vast majority of things I’ve seen, I’m either relying on images good enough to stand on their own or faith that the translation is accurate.

This will all come out in the wash. I don’t think you can trust anything Zelensky says. So many hands are up his are you don’t know which one is making the eyes shift right to left. You can’t trust Putin. I am far from convinced that he won’t have a nibble at NATO now that he knows how weak it is.

Most of all though, you can’t trust US motives in this. The President seems up to his arse in the corruption of the last eight years and if the world has learned one thing since 1945, the last people you want fixing foreign policy by force are the Americans. Little bit tired of them shitting on Europe’s doorstep when they don’t usually have to live with the direct consequences.

Is NATO really weak or is that their hands are tied because Ukraine isn’t a NATO member?

I think I’ve mooted before that NATO can only been seen to be doing something if the UN ask them to otherwise they risk provoking Putin even more, and we all know the outcome to the that.

Well you can’t say my dear brother didn’t say the Russians aren’t aggressive can you?

There will come a time when the west WILL have to do something, not NATO but maybe a peacekeeping force with certain offensive powers, if not Pakistan will start playing this card over Kashmir but I’d fear the Indians wouldn’t back down, nuclear is supposed to keep the status quo between nations and that has been blown out of the water here as

  1. Russia seem to be ready to use it if they don’t get their way.
  2. Ukraine gave them up and look at what has happened. (its argued they couldn’t have afforded to keep them but that’s moot)

I don’t think NATO has ever really been tested in a scenario like this. Sure, you’ve got the bombing of Yugoslavia to fall back on, but it’s usually one of two members working together (e.g. Iraq, Libya, etc).

Also, look at the challenges that NATO has that Russia simply doesn’t. It’s a coalition of democracies, and as we’ve seen just on sanctions, there is a lot of fucking national self-interest kicking about.

Also found something out about legal obligations if a NATO member is attacked. There is no legal requirement to put boots on the ground. The NATO members must convene to discuss any attack, but beyond that it gets wooly.

Something that I started to look at last night and gave up were the real economic effects of this.
It starts with how much Fertiliser Ukraine exported (and tbh Russia) and how the loss of that could impact on crops being planted in the EU (maybe a 15% reduction)
And seeds, equally maybe up to 15% so feed stiock costs will rise then then arrgh.

But then the next light bulb. Eastern Europe is as vital to your living as China. There are Billions of dollars invested by ā€œThe Westā€ in EEU - cars heavy machinery, helicopters, technology, washing machines, the list is endless.

Would NATO have to act IF a member was attacked? Not necessarily.
Could the Western supply chains collapse could all your pension plans vanish and worse? Yes. There are way more risks to this than becoming a pile of radioactive ash. That could be the best outcome.

Scared the shit out of me.

And add to that I am here training Engineers, Sales & Marketing people to be more capable of speaking English because the markets they serve could be changing and 3 weeks ago they were getting about 8-10 enquiries a year (for big $ / Zloty projects). They’ve had 7 since I started on Thursday.
Nice to be a Guru, scary knowing what they do.
No cannot tell you. Yes you can work it out

So in summary, I expect Jeff Bezos Bill Gates et al will tell Biden to act to protect their investments

If Ukraine kidnapped her, that forehead would deflect any fucking hypersonic.

George Galloway has been marked as ā€œRussian state-affiliated mediaā€ on Twitter.

Scott Ritter has been suspended.

So we’ve now descended to taking the piss out of people’s appearance?

Regardless of what her role is in this shitshow have we (you) descended to taking the piss out of appearances to denigrate and belittle our perceived enemies / untermensch?

Putin is a cunt but the Nazi’s used to do that about Jews, as you’ll know from your extensive reading of history.

Comedy? No. Poor form.

Good, both add nothing to the discussion other than mud and smoke and mirrors.
Galloway is a horrible man as is Ritter.

Hold up, we’ve got mock shock opportunist indignation right over here.

Both have done more than enough to discredit themselves, that’s for sure.

It still begs the question ā€œwhy now?ā€. And there’s an obvious answer.

People have had a gutful of their hateful projection and absolute bias when speaking. Of course its a convenient time to get rid of them as there’ll be less of a fuss, I hate with a passion censorship but this is a different kind, if they were brought into the mainstream and challenged and shown up I’d be happy but people don’t want to be seen on a platform with them, that is how toxic they are, they’ve gone so far they’re shit even to someone like me who hates the closing down of opinion.

Does @BTripz need to draw a pencil moustache on Roger Mellie? Perhaps extend his hand a bit so it looks like he’s hailing a cab with his left hand?

You’re onboard with offboarding people. Whatever happened to Barry, champion of freedom of speech?

Oh behave.

You’re running out of arguments I think if you now have to move on from slagging off the appearance of Putin’s daughter to trying to belittle me. Grasping at straws. :joy:
