đŸ‡ș🇩 The War/Invasion in/of Ukraine

I despair at the UK government’s reaction. We are saying things like “we need to bring Russia to its knees”. Puffed up chest bluffing and the Russians know it. Lavrov’s response? “Go on. Do it”

Exactly.

My question for regular posters on this thread, which Dad’s Army character do you think everyone else would vote you to be
.

I wish we had the luxury of such frivolities Cobham, but I am old enough to remember all the theorising about the UK being one of the biggest targets in a nuclear war.

Do you think more or less of them have been allocated our way since Boris started chatting shit on this issue?

Oh, we still have the luxury of such frivolities Pap, best make use of them.

We’ll be at the top of the list if it goes nuclear, but don’t worry Cpl. Jones-Sanchez will be ready “they don’t like it up ‘em!”

:wink::joy:

The UK military probably much to your chagrin is still quite handy, and also to boot we produce shit hot ordnance and hardware.
We couldn’t take Russia, that’d be laughable but we’re strong enough for them to pause a moment to think its not worth it.
You may hate that but we’re still handy.

So what would the point of putting boots on the ground and getting a hell of a lot of them killed for no real purpose - apart from jingoistic headlines (see the Falklands “war”)

So you’d surrender? What is the point of an army if it won’t project national and international interest? For jingoism see Putin and his invaders.
What solution apart from sniping do you have?

Talk about playing the poster Barry. Grow up son.

Where are we currently where surrender is an option?

Will you be first at the recruiting office to sign up to fight? No, I thought not.

I don’t agree with Putin and what he is doing but escalating to potential nuclear war and you seemingly up for it is pathetic even by your confrontational standards.

If you can’t see how our esteemed government hasn’t a clue and are seemingly drawing us into an unwinnable conflict then you really do need to give your head a wobble sonny boy.

What genuinely can be done? Tell us. You seem to be the only one with the correct answers.

Ffs :man_facepalming:

Good rant but no question answered.

No Barry - I have no idea. I’m not a military or political expert. I don’t spout to have any sort of expertise on the situation, so why do you think I could conceivably offer a solution?

There. There’s my position.

Now, using your self professed expertise in anything and everything, tell us what we should do.

Don’t forget to cc in the government.

If you can’t do both then all you are doing is also ranting and being self opinionated- which as we all know is frankly boring.

Happy now

Expressing an opinion on an unjust war isn’t ignorant, its called being human.

Yes, opinions are fine and good, but your lack of self awareness doesn’t allow for other people to have their own differing opinions - eg why you regularly call others out for not agreeing with Barry-speak.

I’d like to think you get that and understand why you get so much Beef Barry.

So, just to tweak your last comment:

Now stop carping.

Is Lithuania legally correct?

Well I’m sure that would matter if Russia still gave a fuck about the niceties of international law. I think the more important questions surround the consequences. Putin can go back t his own people and tell them their fellow citizens are being blockaded.

We are tiptoeing to general war.

So you think laws can be broken with no consequences as you’re scared of the aggressor?
That is a green light to tyranny, Putin tells them what he wants them to hear anyway, lapdogs, Chinese lapdogs but lapdogs nonetheless.
Your argument supports all regimes where they believe might is right, Palestine, Western China, Yemen.
You stay classy.

Nope. I’m saying some countries suspend their enthusiasm for international law and that once they do, they’re unlikely to be bowled over with the threat of more international law.

If you want an example of some people who broke the law without suffering great personal consequences just look at Blair and Bush. Apart from Blair being so hated that he needs likelong 24/7 security, they’re off scot-free. Neither will ever see the inside of a criminal court.

Blair like Putin is a cunt, they should all be in court but whataboutery is mere distraction.

“Whataboutery” as you call it is pretty fucking important in the criminal justice system, especially when it comes to sentencing. It is the exact question the judge is deliberating on. How do the crimes of the guilty stack up with similar crime.

“Whataboutery” as you use it is your crutch for when you stumble over yet more of your own broken glass.
