With Rose, Jones, Reed moving on there’s a theme emerging of letting go those who’ve had four or five seasons to make their mark and haven’t done so. I’m expecting Sims and Hesketh to join them. Where’s Mcqueen? He’s another.

Absolutely right. I have spent the afternoon in a beer garden with half a dozen Everton supporters, they are tearing their hair out with the club’s inability to get rid of surplus shite on their payroll, all with longish contracts on astronaut’s wages who wouldn’t get a look in at any other club so are going nowhere. One or two signed by Koeman which is nice! They are sweating on James Rodriguez signing but there seems to be a hiccup there, a done deal yesterday is not so sure today. They are not happy,(when are they ever?), even a few murmurings about Ancelotti not being up to the job! I kept my council mostly, threw the odd hand grenade in when i thought appropriate! Fucking enjoyed it.

On a more realistic note, I wonder if we’re looking for an Armstrong type of buy at DM, older than our usual buys with reasonable experience and challenge/cover for Romeu. Otherwise all our cover is from the Academy.

Yeah, especially as Reed would have been our ‘proven’ academy cover in that position.
DM is such a key position for Hutch’s press that we would be a different team without that experience.
That said, I’ve heard Hutch say that he loves the energy that young players bring to his system and that older players are more set in their ways.

Shame he never worked out. When he was good, he was very very good. Unfortunately, that wasn’t that often.
I’ve seen a Boufal goal in the flesh though, and it was wonderful.

That wouldn’t surprise me at all. Better than nothing if he is in the last year of his contract.
If that happens that will probably require a dip in to the market to replace him because we are already pretty short in the #10 position. Djenepo staying fit would help but not sure where Smallbone’s best position is and I doubt Sims or Hesketh are up to the task, even as just back ups.
Is Tella a viable option at this stage?
