John McKennie, Weston’s Dad just liked a tweet from a Saints fan asking when his son was going to sign for us
Make of that blah blah

we do not need this one.

Southampton are leading the chase for Watford’s 29-year-old England forward Danny Welbeck, who has a £5.5m release clause following the Hornets’ relegation. (Sun)

He always scores against us, maybe he could always score for us ¯\(ツ)

£29 years old and injury prone… yep definitely a typical saints signing.

Not sure I would buy him even for that

There is a reason he plays for Watford and was far from first choice, at only 29 years old

Watford is his Derby and he wants to spend the prime of his life there?

You nailed it for sure.

Which he did not do (often) last season

In the Echo now, as well.

Fortunately, they’re only quoting the sun again, so hopefully there’s no mileage in it.

For £5m as a backup pace merchant I don’t see it as an issue tbh - is he worse than Long?

I’d be less than thrilled if we signed Welbeck, but it really doesn’t look like our type of signing anyway. So I’ll be surprised if there was anything in the report.

Depends on where his mind is at and what sort of character he is. It doesn’t look good, but I think it’s worth remembering that Watford FC would have been one of the worst places to play football the season just gone.

There is something rotten at that place, and when you’re working somewhere rotten, I will forgive you if you’re no longer capable of giving a fuck.

When you go from a dysfunctional place to one that is fairly well setup and established, it can be a huge personal boost. I’ve been in places before where the framework simply didn’t permit me to perform.

Watford is a similar shit show. Five mil is bargain for a 29 year old.

When did you swallow the reasonable pill?

After the second time I was brought up before the HR beak

I’m gutted no-one’s noticed.

I actually quite like welbeck. Had loads of injury problems but there’s a decent player in there. Would spell the end of either boufal or Djeneo but maybe thats fine with Ralph.

I’m not saying he isn’t a good player, just that he seems completely at odds with what we’ve been buying. Chertsey mentioned Long, and there’s a valid comparison there, but Long was shipped in in entirely different circumstances. We haven’t just seen a mass raid on the squad like we did before Koeman arrived. We just don’t make a habit of buying well-established PL players, how many of those have we bought since promotion?

Agree, doesn’t seem a very ‘Saints’ signing.
