Some good points Phil, especially regarding Che. When he first arrived I did like him as a player, his work rate and his obvious enthusiasm were first class. But he was signed as a goal scoring striker, and he’s had a couple of seasons now to show what he can do in that regard and he just hasn’t delivered. He was banging them in for Birmingham City, scoring goals for fun week after week. Likewise Adam Armstrong at Blackburn, he was prolific for them. But I think the step up to the Premiership is a step too far for both of them, the difference in class between the Premiership and the football league is plain to see. Defenders shut them down far quicker in the Prem and their limitations are exposed, neither of them look like Premiership quality strikers, especially Armstrong, who let’s remember was signed as a like for like replacement for Danny Ings. Never in a million years is he in that class as a goal scorer. I wish he was, but there it is. It’s a difficult one, It’s hard to see a club like The Saints attracting a guaranteed 20 goals a season prem quality striker unless they just get lucky with a young untested striker or someone coming through the ranks of the academy. But of course we all know what happens if that occurs, the vultures immediately start hovering, tapping them up via a quiet word in their agent’s ear with offers of riches far beyond what they can get with us. Sadly that’s just the way it works.
Unpopular opinion.
Armstrong is a goal scorer.
His issue atm is fear or confidence. He is snapping at chances.
He made so many good runs at Spurs but the ball never came.
I think we will get Delap I think it is about a loan or a purchase. That makes the Che noises make sense more saleable and Arma can play off his shoulder.
We are also after a RB and I believe we want Stephens/Beds out to get a CB and probably Phil Jones.
Che Adams came as a goal scorer. He scores the occasional one, but nothing like as prolific as he was at Birmingham. Armstrong scored two goals in 42 club appearances last season, hardly the stats of a proper Premiership striker IMO. Phil Jones for Stephens or Bednarek? That’s like swapping the Devil for Old Nick.
I and many others want us to find an experienced vocal leader.
