The Sotonians Transfers Thread

I’d say at that price it’s a low risk investment.

know he hasn’t got long left on his contract but still surprised at that fee. Thought it would be higher, tbh. Seems a good deal.

LFC have apparently had an 8m bid for Shane Long rejected.

Whether Liverhampton actually put the bid in in the first place is up for debate.

Saw this gem linked on SteveWeb, thought it quite amusing

It should also be fairly enlightening if you’re running with the notion that all Liverpool fans are up themselves and perpetually expectant of success. There are a couple of frothers going at it, but some of our fans were no different when we were looking to sign Long. Most look pretty realistic to me on most matters, although I do wonder how on earth any of them think 8m is a sensible figure when we paid more, we do not want to sell while Long is playing some of the best football of his Saints career.

I don’t want to lose him at all.

Bruno Martins Indi rumours resurface

I would like to sign that Bruno Martin Indi bro i thought he looked good player in the World Cup + I also sign him sometimes in Football Manager

There is a piece on Football365 which delves deeper into the Liverpool and Spurs interest in Shane Long.

“Shane Long? Really?” Danny Murphy’s reaction to the news that Liverpool were looking at signing a sixth Southampton playerin the last 18 months can be filed under ‘withering’. Liverpool, Liverpool, want Shane Long? That fella from a team below them in the league? The solution to their goalscoring problems is to sign a striker with a career record of one goal in every four games? Madcap Jurgen strikes again.

The January transfer window is a strange beast. It exists almost as a separate entity to the season, a sport in itself. It distorts better judgement and warps common sense. There is no other way to explain 29-year-old Steven Naismith moving to Norwich for £8.5million; Bournemouth spending £17million on two strikers – Benik Afobe and Lewis Grabban – whose combined career Premier League efforts had garnered just one goal is otherwise inexplicable. And Liverpool and Spurs to engage in a battle over Shane Long? Football gossip has officially jumped the shark.

I did smirk maybe Saints related as they switch and have to bid 35 mil for Shane (hope not)

I read that Liverhampton sent people to America to try and hijack Chelski’s bid for Teixeira

And he went and did his Hamstring.

Will clearly fit in well then

Couldn’t make it up

Find it odd that these football experts are still so behind when it comes to asessing fees.

Yes, on the face of it that is a lot of money. Premier League clubs have obscene amounts of money sloshing around. This is about the going rate of these players. Big 'kin whoop.

Also, Jurgen likes high pressing tactics, with lots of energetic players with a high work-rate. Guess what, Long fits that perfectly. Really isn’t rocket science any of this.
