📚 The Sotonians Lockdown & Beyond Diaries

I used to drink in there occasionally, they used to have live music. Across the road was The Honest Lawyer. I think the same guy owned both of them.

Yes, in Lodge Road. No idea whether they were owned by the same person, but I do vaguely recall some animosity between the two pubs.

I think the guy ran the Bent Brief, and his wife ran The Honest Lawyer. I too recall some animosity, I’m pretty sure they got divorced so that might explain it!

Yep, that would do it :smile::smile:

Never heard that one. If you are talking about the last 20 years or so, that is not true.

The Bent Brief was originally called Royal Oak. In the early 90’s it was owned by an Indian family who changed the name as a “fuck you” to the Honest Lawyer, which had been there for at least 100 years. My paternal Grandad was a regular in the 1930’s.

Andy Wade and his wife took it over The Bent in the late 90’s and after they split up Andy and his nnew lady, Maureen ran it until it closed.

Throughout that period there was was tom y knowledge no connection between the 2 pubs and The Honest shut down about 10 years ago and then re-opened as Green Bar. It then became half pub/half Chinese restaurant before they got closed for illegal staff

It would have been around the mid 80s when I used to go in there, a good mate lived round the corner, it was his local.

Dave and Maureen rand The Bent Brief. Don’t think they ran anything else.

Read my post 2 up from yours. It was Andy. Dave Bulpitt ran the Bevois Castle (now The Rockstone) in the 90’s.

You’re right. Andy. Why the fuck did I think Dave?

because you’ve been sharing @lifeintheslowlane’s mad frog pills

Shut up Dave.

You are my wife now, Dave.

We’re thinking that all of us have had the coronavirus. I was being somewhat of a hypochondriac last week and the missus, who has better short term memory than me, reminded me that I had spent two days on my arse, leaving a human shaped sweat pool on the bedding for those two days, and quite unusually for me, headaches.

All of us have had a bout like that since February.

Reckon you can put that down to a mixture of too much ale and that scouse green. It can be a lethal combination!
