📚 The Sotonians Lockdown & Beyond Diaries

In 3 days I’ve processed 5 urgent child protection concerns. I’ve barely had any since lock down started. Things went very quiet. Now things are kicking off more having been cooped up with family. Lots of domestic abuse as you’ve seen noted in the news.
One incident wouldn’t have happened if they’d stayed home and not visited others. So stay home and don’t go to other people’s houses!

The newly installed boyf-units are already proving their worth. One of them is out doing the garden at the moment, while the other has already been in a brekkie circle which offered me food.

I appreciate that there may be some over-protective fathers that’d be surprised I’m letting them stay in the house, but I’ve never been worried about my daughters. I usually worry about the boyfriends, thus my attitude is “if you’re brave enough to date my daughter, fair play to you”.

The other more serious consideration is pulling that sort of shit is always counter-productive, just as it is when you try to interfere with any relationship. The one way to guarantee people stay together longer than they should is to tell them they shouldn’t be together, and they’ll probably tell you fuck off into the bargain.

Hence, I’ve been relatively chilled about all my kids’ decisions, and it has paid off. They’re both good lads, we all get on, and it’s a good mix. Not a bad crowd to spend lockdown with, provided neither of the bastards corona me.

Well it was a risk you did take. So fingers crossed eh?

Taken for the right reasons.

Road to hell paved with good intentions, eh?

Amen yo that. People who TELL others what to do because they know best vs people who listen and have trusted advisors around them and make decisions for their Community benefit/safety is the topic of my TV Clip thingy today.
For once there appears to be growing Empirical evidence that Wisdom beats Ego & doctrine

I went to the supermarket. I had to queue for 15 mins to get in. Some people are too stupid to understand the concept of a one way system, even with big arrows on the floor. I then queued half way around the store in order to pay. I reckon I’ve spent 3 times the normal amount because I never want to go back there.

Search locally for small businesses that deliver to restaurants etc so you don’t have to do that again. I don’t want to ever go to a big shop again after our last visit. Apparently with my OD I could get in on the early slot. Not even up for that.

Have either of them touched on the subject of your life insurance?

I think I’ve broken my little toe on my left foot. Stubbed the bastard on a corner wall, as I did a couple of years ago. They won’t do anything for you at the hospital, so the missus has taped it to the other toe and I’m walking about like a man with uranium in his left boot.

Houseparty call with mates tonight so we decided (last week) to have a bake off. Can you guess what Kid Goat and I have been making today?

Roadtrip.
Essential obviously. 5 bags of seed potatoes for the village.
Nice to be back in the countryside, & clocked some wildlife.

  1. Reminds me of an old saying…

  1. Yeah these guys will be busy in 8 months or so so time to chill

We’ve got enough of the bat plague without you trying to contract bird flu, thank you very much.

To the IOW to collect a van. It was very wet and I had to go to and from Skatesmuff.

Think I’ll call my Doctor.

Randomly due to tech issues just watched HIGNFY & Graham Norton.
The new reality of TV right there

I cannot imagine the circumstances which would persuade me to endure graham fucking norton, on tv or anywhere else.

C’mon, he was fantastic as the fucking annoying Father Noel Furlong in Father Ted.

Largely because he didn’t have to act.

That serves only to strengthen my point. :+1::+1::+1::grin:

So my mum has decided to call me during working hours, every week. We never used to talk that much before. Maybe once a month even bi-monthly. She picked the worst time yesterday as I was being bombarded with urgent stuff to do. She also emailed me about the same thing she spoke to me about!

Got the news that Lost Evenings 4 (Frank Turners festival) in Berlin is cancelled. Not even postponed. It was inevitable as it was on the second to last weekend in May. I was very much looking forward to a trip to Berlin as I have never been. BA have so far cancelled our flight out but not the one back. Just waiting for that. They’re offering a voucher but who knows when we will use it within a year?! I did buy ticket insurance on the festival ticket. I had to decipher that from a confirmation email in German.
