The Sea...... Gulls vs the Mighty fine creative free scoring Saints Match Thread

Does that mean as Thread starter I get another go, or am I sacked again?

Re Forster and the criticism. He is the only player I have a bit of sympathy with.

St Les as I know he should be called here must know he cant leave his line and therefore is a limited goalie but sufficient for mid table. Plus as he is in the England squad so its free tickets and perks for the board. If we want a decent goalie we need to buy one good one, not 3 or 4 average ones on cheap wages

The header took a slight deflection and only a top goalie could have saved it or preferably come out and punched it clear.

Forster is feeling the pressure from our tactics of trying to win 1- 0 or to put it another way just about survive so they can milk the cash cow alongside their careers.

MoPE seems like another ā€˜nice teacher’ who has taken a job at a private school with a bunch of arrogant spoilt pupils looking down their noses at him. No support from above either.

I would like either Big Sam or Sean Dyche or Tuchell or Acelloti in or failing that give MoPe the budget to bring in a number of his own players in Jan. Doing nothing ,saying nothing and demanding nothing will achieve nothing.

Les is warming his private jet on his way to Glasgow mid week to sound out a get out plan before Nelly finds out where his office is

I gotta disagree with you regarding the goal yesterday. Whilst there was a slightly unkind deflection, there was next to no power on the ball. In my opinion the problem was his mobility, AGAIN. He shouldn’t have needed to dive for it, simply be in the right position and stick a hand up. Because he was slow getting across, he did a dive for the cameras and got it all kinds of wrong.

I do however agree with your point about our attempts to win 1-0 not exactly helping the guy out. I don’t know if the manager is overly cautious or whether it is the team not believing that they can score more than one goal, but the fact that we dropped off deep once we had scored was not great to watch. We should have pressed home the advantage and gone for a second goal which would have killed the game. Defending a one goal lead is never easy or indeed sensible, especially when there is 84 minutes left of the game and you’ve got a sasquatch in nets.

The football is, for the most part, better than last season so I’m staying calm.

I thought we was Quite Good against West Brom. I didn’t see this game cos I was at the Blues vs Villa, but when I saw there was no Le Mina in the line up, I was quite non-confident, and ultimately thought a draw was OK

Really? You really think so?

I really see no difference from last season, sideways passing, no attempts at running at players, possesion for possesion’s sake. Defense minded setups.

Yesteray we should have grabbed the game by the scruff of the next after scoring but we didn’t, we sat back , we defended (quite well as it happens) and then conceded a sloppy equalizer.

I fast forwarded after the equalizer because I knew we wouldn’t have the nouse to break them down and score a winner.

Don’t get me wrong, all that stuff you have listed is still there but hear me out…

We can now score penalties.

Also… hmmmm… okay… yeah I’m struggling!

I have not yet watched a repeat of the infamous ā€˜Hull at home’ this season so that is a definite plus.

Anyway @btripz , positivity doesn’t come easy to me so you taking my rose tinted galsses off aint exactly helping anybody!! Jeez!

:lou_eyes_to_sky:

Fat Sam :lou_sad:

And last season JW-P scored a goal!!

Normally I am quite positive but the 3 home matches I have attended this season have well and truly eroded that.

'fraid so @areloa-grandee , home to Burnely next week, think I’ll avoid that one completely…

But he very nearly did yesterday! For a much praised free kick specialist, only one free kick goal in his club career over 5 or 6 years is not great by any standards.

Plus, Steven Davis scored zero last term but he has now got 2!! BOOM! They are taking it in turns to be useless, that is all.

At least we can all still cling to the faint and distant hope that going 3-5-2 is the answer to all of our problems. Until that falls flat of course. But by then it will be January and we can dream of a new goalkeeper and flogging Redmond and Tadic to the Romanian third division or somewhere else equally desirable.

10 games into the season with a new manager, 9th in the table and you’re calling for Big Fat Sam.

Fucking jesus wept.

I’d ignore this chap. He’s clearly a wind up migrated from Bojland.

3 points from the three promoted clubs is bad.

The only 10 games in doesnt wash given the opposition.

Ignore the problem or ignoreing people bringing up the problem is verging either on stupidity or some vestige interest in running down the club and lowering expectations. All the happy clappers satisfied with what is served up should bugger off and travel to Reading. I am begining to see the mid table see no evil hear no evil supporters cheering on every mention of the academy and celebrating the Southampton Saints brand as part of the problem.

No ambition as Cowman said. He tried and failed. But thats ok as at least he tried. Better to die on your feet than live on your knees

Nobody is ignoring the problem but only a select few like yourself and maybe Roger have the necient vision that fat Sam is the answer.

I think most of players are v.good players and performances will prob get better as the season goes on. If they don’t I’ll prob start kicking up a fuss tho. I remember at Pellegrino’s interview Les was like, I want minimum 50 points & 50 goals this year you bender, or I’ll be looking at you! You’ve got to give it bit more time before comitting mass suicide I would think.

I’m not saying newyork is wrong, but it feels like he’s predicting the weather. It might rain. It might not.

10th in the table now but I won’t split hairs :lou_is_a_flirt:

For me the most worrying stat is 10 games played, 9 goals scored!! This is for me the more concerning issue, we have not dipped our toes into the market for a decent striker or we’re playing the wrong tactics to suit the strikers we have.

I still worry the MoPo MKII is a defensive minded coach and tries to win games 1-0 and keep possession.

Burnley next up, might as well leave the ball in the centre spot and have each side just sit there looking at each other.

Interesting.

Means getting Tadic off the wing properly and keeping him central.

8) Tadic and Gabbiadini may solve Southampton’s woes

Southampton’s forward issues remain unresolved. Mauricio Pellegrino was missing Charlie Austin once more at Brighton & Hove Albion but the question seems less one of absent personnel and more what to do with those players who are available. Every single attacking player on the Southampton roster has flattered to deceive, not just this season but also in the previous campaign. Each has their abilities and each their flaws but perming different combinations did not work for Claude Puel and things are no different so far this season under the Argentinian. Dusan Tadic is neither the quickest nor the most tricky of Southampton attackers but he does know how to deliver in this league. Playing him off Manolo Gabbiadini and allowing them to build a relationship is surely worth a shot. Paul MacInnes

Fat Sam could be one answer. I suggested 5 answers but he is being focussed on. I do think it is unlikely Sam would come or we would even consider him. I think the most likely is we give MoPE some money in Jan. My point is something has got to give immediatly. The players he has arnt doing it for him or he isnt doing it for the players. Remember that first game at Anfield when Cowman came in. He knew then ( ven though we lost)and it was clear from the game we had something to offer. I havent seen that since he left

Saying that Bearsly is right with the weather thingy. What do I know something may happen. I see a flood of mediocracy and I’m gathering my animals. I will be far happier to be in my ark surrounded by fields of corn and to be prooved wrong at the end of the season with a top six finish

Our current strikers aren’t working

Our academy is famed

McQueen seems to be doing OK in the under 23s

I say we have nothing to lose in trying McQueen and Gabbi together.
