The Sea...... Gulls vs the Mighty fine creative free scoring Saints Match Thread

Radio 5 Live starting the stories about our fans being disgruntled - it’s on the radio so it must be true.

I’m not particularly gruntled and think we should be doing better, but it’s not all doom and gloom - you’d think from what they’re saying that we’re all bedwetting Barrys and New York Saints…

And he knows that along with the rest of the team and the fans. If he was a foot forward from his line then he’d have saved that.

Team still uncomfortable with going forward but starting to get the gist. It’s taking way longer than I thought it would. Saints fans are becoming more and more precious. Most negative “support” I’ve seen in a long time. Almost happier to say I told you so than see the team succeed.

So glad I got in to football in the nineties than the over expectant privileged cunts you get these days.

Oh most of them have been Saints “fans” longer than me.

Bless

Did I miss anything?

Wasn’t really that far wrong was I??

I am starting to get a little disenfranchised with MoPe!!

Not really, I fast forwarded through most of the second half

Why oh why did I go and look at the Dark Side Post match thread.

Shoot me now.

I think we’re making progress. MP has talked about the team identity not being quite settled yet. I think he’s finding the best team. The back 4 look quality. I’m happy with Boufal over Redmond and hope that continues. I’d be tempted to say let’s try dropping Tadic as well now. JWP had a decent game today. Let’s try Lemina a bit further forward if we need… The point is I didn’t think we need to be stuck with Tadic, whose first thought nowadays seems to be about how quickly he should fall over and how much he should roll about.

I’m on team MP.

I’m finding it harder and harder to be in team Forster though.

Yay, but oh balls.

We need a keeper, if anything to maybe make Fraser buck his ideas up. I am losing it with him now!

@dubai_phil what was downvotable? confused ?

So glad I got into football in 70s when we were sort of good but in the second flight, and well, not sure anyone gave a fuck about that really… although there was maybe too much 'bother’for a 7 year old (in 76) to be comfortable at games…

“And he knows that along with the rest of the team and the fans”.

Every week? Let’s face it he is useless, he cost us the game today, for weeks now every time the ball goes near him our hearts are in our mouth’s. How much longer can it go on, the,“he’s going through a bad patch”, etc etc. He is not good enough at this level, that is blatantly obvious. Slow, no confidence, doesn’t impose himself in his area, his kicking like a Sunday pub team keeper, flapping at the ball, clueless positioning at free kicks, etc etc. Whether it’s because of the injury that kept him out for the best part of a year, i don’t know, but he is shot, out of his depth at this level. Time to put him out of his misery, McCarthy must be really shite if he’s not a better bet than Forster at the moment.

And don’t get me started on Tadic!

Manager was the problem last year. He’ll never command a winning team. :grinning:

The Forster situation is an interesting one for our club. He just signed a new long term deal but is absolutely dead on his feet, with no confidence. His actual ability is also now being drawn in to question and it is becoming harder to defend him. Flat footed, lead footed (as Pardew called him today) slow to get down, slow to get up, poor distribution… the list goes on.

There will be very few if any suitors for him, especially few willing to pay over £10m for him. So will the club be willing to address the situation, buy a new keeper and cut their losses, putting him out to pasture? Or persist with him and HOPE he improves? Big call. Considering our model has largely been based on buying cheap and selling on at a profit once that player has been improved.

We’ve got to stop using the injury as an excuse. He came back after that and was a thousand times better than he has been for the last 12 months.

You look around the league and he is quickly becoming one of the least desirable candidates to stand between the sticks.

Either way, surely it’s time to take him out of the firing line for a bit? How much worse can McCarthy do? If he balls’ up and costs us points, well so what. So did Forster.

Its a similar situation with Redmond in my opinion. Week after week there is little evidence of improvement so it was time for a change and giving someone else a chance to stake a claim. I certainly don’t know if McCarthy will do any better but what I do know is that Forster is incredibly fragile right now and probably needs removing just to give himself chance to compose himself. A move as much in his interests as it is the teams.

If I were the manager I’d drop him completely next game and say he picked up a minor injury in training. Then hope McCarthy doesn’t fuck up and justifies retaining his place once he is ‘fit’ again.

Huh?

I blame beer for any errors.

Thank fuck we won’t be on tv here for next few weeks.

It’s getting hard to stay positive and with discounted beer the morning after are becoming an issue.

Its not all doom and gloom, its just shit and boring. I was going to say predictable but I cant seem to predict how crap we have become as I always hope something will change

I’m glad I got into football in the 1910s when the worst thing that could happen is you got caught on barbed wire, have to be subbed with a touch of trenchfoot, or shot at halftime.

It was going well until Fats told us all how well it was going and that it looked like we were on the way to all 3 points.

Unfortunately Forster read that at half time and didn’t bother to come out for the second half. :lou_sad:
