The Wheel of Time S3 Ep 7
Fucking Hell
The Wheel of Time S3 Ep 7
Fucking Hell
Good weekend to re-watch at least the last episode of Andor Season 1 - streamed so long ago!
S2 drops this week
My streamer never uploaded the Doctor Who XMas special so I have jumped straight in to Woke Nonsense shit S2.
Russell T Davies pens Robot Revolution which tbf to wokeness has a sperm & an egg in it and is really owing its DNA to classic Flash Gordon/ Robbie the Robot 1950’s SciFi.
Sadly I must report that it was not shit.
Ep2 again takes us back to B Movie Horror/Who Framed Roger Rabbit and again RTD spins a B Movie yarn from it, with (I hate to say it) a very clever existential chat in the living room with a cup of tea.
Neither episode is Blink - which I can safely say as again in the B Movie clever stupid NOT WOKENESS moment gets confirmed by the cast themselves (yes I mentioned it is existential)
Ep 2 was not shit and, despite linking to a past wokeness, it came back, stayed on track and made me smile.
This is not shit. The new Doctor is less annoying. RTD shows some life and creativity in getting to the “bigger on the inside” bits. XRay blankets. Doctor & Nurse ( come on, how did they not do that gag in 50 odd years)
You know? The show may survive after that awful 1st Ncuti season.
And yes ep2 has a wrongness moment (not a wokeness moment) that works and is so utterly stupid. I’m sure something like it has been done before but how he gets told “how to solve the episode” is gonna make me grin for a while
Rating.
Not as shit as it was
Lol
38 years.
38 fvcking years.
And we finally get another Star Wars flying scene to laugh, love and thrill over.
Yeah. Ep1 Act 1 Andor.
It then goes story / rory. But thats fine, we had the Independence Day Oops moment
It’s May the 5th Star Wars day, so it must be said that Andor is the best Star Wars since we met Luke
Unpopular but growing opinion.
The new Doctor Who (S2) is actually good.
After the utter shit f Space Babies and woke pianists, RTD has managed to bring back a feel of that kids run behind the sofa NOW vibe. It has a back story, Ncuti is wearing the Doctor “skin” better and there is more depth.
Ep1 is Retro TOO BRIGHT fun, Ep 2 is clever and breaks the Fourth Wall big time (getting the audience into the actual show) Ep 3 has a twist that would be a spoiler and Ep 4 basically has the Doctor in it for about a minute and asks some deep Podcast modern day truth bomb questions.
All the while - something is in the background (oh for the days of Bad Wolf) - it feels EIL and maybe even (up yours MCU) Multiversal or maybe outtaversial
All this in a Kids show
It is not early David Tennant or Christopher Ecclestone but it is slowly becoming not shit, and I am entertained by it
No spoiler comment from FB
Ghorman Massacre in Andor S2E8 will go down as one of the most horrifying, brutal & finest episodes in modern television history. This ep is not only one of the greatest in Star Wars, but is one of the greatest tv episodes of this century.
Production, filming, acting, and direction is some of the best we have ever witnessed. A proof how to show violence, and make it look horrifying. Tony Gilroy achieved something not even George Lucas could do in Star Wars in 21s century.
Personally?
The writing and acting as we journeyed towards the first point of true horro of the emergence of “The Empire” has been on a different level.
Sure The Mandalorian was great but Andor is giving huge depth to those original movies and prequels.
The characters of Cassian, Syril, Mon Mothma and Dedra have a level of tragedy about them.
As a fan of Star Wars, this is truly magnificent
(And no Jar Jar Binks thank fvck)
Andor was fucking brilliant.
It works equally well as a standalone and as part of the Saga…
In fact, it’s now one of the most consequential things in the universe.
And it does it all without lightsabers.
I binged the final 3 episodes then straight into Rogue One - absolutely seamless
Brilliant TV, hell, simply a brilliant story - an Epic Tragedy that was not Forced
Yes Doctor Who has improved.
It now falls in the enjoyable category - not at David Tennant levels obviously but watchable, heck his current assistant was also part of the tragedy in Ghorman in Andor so has some DNA.
And it is not just me:
The Interstellar Song contest is classic It is camp but in a loving way not an in your face way heck The Doc even has the line"Did I just fly through Space Powered by a Confetti Gun? That’s so Camp,
It has some guest stars/cameos and two which really are Wait WHAT? for ttally different reasons.
So the story was shown on Eurovision Night and it is totally Doctor Whovian and totally Eurovision. Marvellous
From one of the reviews
This series of Doctor Who has felt different. More than any other series in the 20 years since the BBC revived its classic sci-fi show, this run has been packed with brave and unusual ideas. We’ve had big swipes at coercive control and online conspiracy culture, as well as a partially animated episode that obliterated the fourth wall.
But this weekend, in the Eurovision-inspired episode The Interstellar Song Contest — beautifully written by Juno Dawson, the show’s first trans writer — Doctor Who did something fans have been wanting to see for years. With only the two-part finale story ahead, the stage is set for a tremendous pay-off to another strong series for the Ncuti Gatwa era.

Totally different yet naybe another classic?
Murderbot - Apple

Big reviews

Mrs P_F not watching heard one of Alex’s asides laughed and asked wtf I was watching - most unusual
Booo
Just finished it, very good indeed.
Saints are currently live on
The SyFy Channel…
Well, the season has been an X File
Doctor Who
S1 of Ncuti alienated most of you
S2 had some absolute banger episodes it eased back on the queerness but not all the way.
The finale of S2 was a 54 minute long mess - - it was as if I had written it. You lot fell out of love with the Doctor so I am going to go big and throw EVERYTHING into it. And not just the Kitchen Sink, I’m throwing … oh shit sorry spoilers
What a glorious mess that was absolutely marvelous, a Jaw Drop before the end and.
Nope, Spoliers
A spray beer last scene and the words
Oh Hello
Fuck Me that hit
The excellent Star Trek Strange New Worlds S3 drops soon
Season 4 is currently being filmed
Season 5 has been confirmed but will also be the last - a 5 season run.
Will give the chance to properly finish a show for a change and guess it can’t go on forever when we know the ending anyway.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a fifth and final season. Series creators share a heartfelt thank you for the epic “five-season mission.”
Season three premieres on July 17th on Paramount+ and August 4th on SkyShowtime. The series is currently in production on season four, with season five filming later this year. Paramount+ Announces Fifth and Final Season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Well.
Thst is annoying.
Thunderbolts*
(The New Avengers)
It isn’t even a little bit shit.
It’s actuslly a fun, entertaining film, and the characters (and mainly Florence Pugh) are great.
I think that it’s problem is Marvel/Kevin Feige/Disney writing cheques the films cannot cash.
It needs the backstories it makes the film, but it isn’t the next greatest world changing tjing.
Until MCU go back to worrying about the now and not Phase 69 or whatever we will continue to get put off decent films worth seeing on a big screen
It had faults but I love how it’s about a group of losers.
(It is however, probably a bad time to be called Bob)
I quite liked Thunderbolts* too. Surprisingly jaunty for a film about mental health.
It was far better than Captain America: Brave New World, which seemed like someone had nicked a couple of Marvel plots and welded them together in a cut and shut.
When Phil called it The New Avengers, I was hoping Florence Pugh was playing Purdey.
I googled to find who was playing Steed and Gambit and was disappointed to learn it was another of that series of borefest.
