🦇 The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

How can you have a character named Christian in a secondary world where Christianity is not a thing?

I dunno. You wrote stories about a fictional Waterside that has electricity, etc.

The imagination runs wild

We have donkeys and ponys too the imagination runs wild  if your from the wrong side of the water.

Anyone still going with Rings of Power? I am hearing reports that despite all the money spent on it, it is pretty boring.

I can testify to that a bit. Fallen asleep twice while trying to watch it.

Ep 3 had some grand sights as we visited a new Island.
Actually introduced a character played by what could be an Actor.
It has kept me watching ithink I see where we are off to with it.
But the main characters so far are just not up to the job

Episode 1 was enough for me.

Mrs C_S and YoungAdult#1 have managed 3 but are struggling on.

Rings of Pooper?

“… In total, The Rings of Power’s production budget is reportedly an eye-watering $465 million.

However, that figure doesn’t include the $250 million it cost Amazon to secure the rights…”

Worth it?

Nah. IMHO of course

Perhaps if they’d spent £50 on actual actors it may have helped

I’ve also read that their writers have no serious credits to their name.

Seems like a massive cluster fuck.

250m for the rights, and not all the rights mind you. For a part of Tolkien lore less detailed than the Hobbit, a kids book.

So a bit more on this Rings of Power lark. Basically, Amazon bought the rights to the appendices of Lord of the Rings. Not the Silmarillion. Not the Unfinished tales.

A quarter of a billion for some appendixes. Seems profligately useless.

It’s at times like these I wonder why there isn’t a Judge Dredd TV series.

Because Sly is too old & Karl Urban didn’t quite carry it off? (and is busy?

Got up early and watched the latest episode of House of the Dragon. I realise other people haven’t seen it yet, so I will be very light on anything potentially spoilery.

The one thing I will say is that we see a big time jump this week, with adult actors now inhabiting the roles of Alysant and Rhaenyra. I mention the time jump because it really shouldn’t work this well.

There are ten years of new events to catch up with, people that were kids the last time you saw them and adults or teenagers well.

And yet, the planning that has gone into this show means that not only do you quickly acclimate to the change, but once again, you’re immersed in the unfolding drama.

The show continues to go from strength to strength. The complete source material is available to draw from. Can’t see them dropping the ball with this one.

Looks like Hugh Jackman will again be making one last final appearance as grumpy claw guy.

Wrexham FC clearly need more publicity

The Rings of Power - you’ve all given up.
Ep 4 has much less Galadriel.
And the story advances.
Much better

Sounds like some sort of cleaning product.

True.
Being balanced the turdish acting levels were reduced
The how is this relevant? became relevant.
And some acting happened

It’s the most lavishly polished turd in TV history.

Some more thoughts pilfered from my own FB.

Super-impressed with House of the Dragon. I’ve fallen asleep twice trying to watch Rings of Power.

Some have been more animated. The Irish are not happy their accent is being used for proto-Hobbits, the Scots aren’t happy with being dwarves and the Mancs aren’t happy at being all the simpletons.

We live in an age where House of the Dragon’s fratricide, patricide and incest are less problematic ![
