šŸ¦‡ The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

Loved the New Caprica season. It had balls. In a time when the West was rolling around the world to fight the evil ā€œterroristsā€, BSG’s heroes become an insurrection in an occupation, with some of the humans even becoming suicide bombers.

Probably the bravest sci-fi as metaphor thing I’ve seen, and as usual, sci-fi does a better job of exploring something contemporary than the contemporary media of the day.

Hmmm

How the hell are people expected to watch so much content?

The weekend’s sci-fi just gets more

MANDO!

I was thinking about why this show succeeds where most of the movies haven’t.

It’s the characters. This show has done a better job with minor characters than the movies managed with the major ones.

Agreed. I think it also helps that the 2 people that are running it obviously love the source material, with incredible attention to detail that isn’t forced down your throat and some genuine humour that doesn’t resort to ā€˜your mum’ punchlines. I also think the casting is fantastic, my first recollection of Bill Burr was in Breaking Bad (had never heard of him before BB), and even though he only had a small part I thought he was great, he’s very very good in Mandalorian with comedic and dramatic effect :lou_lol:

He’s doing a great Bill Burr there.

And that’s really all you need.

Great episode though. Loads going on. Kinda hoping Boba Fett sticks around. It’s the most I’ve ever liked the character.

Hearing that the Expanse may not be cancelled as such, but may just have a pause. I have not read the books, but I believe much the same happens narratively there too, pause-wise.

We could end up getting all nine books on-screen.

Hearing FX are creating an Alien TV show.
Set on Earth.
In the near future

Just seen ad on Sky that you can get all the episodes of Fringe on CatchUp.

5 series of 20 episodes. That should keep me occupied.

Sci-fi elements are good, was going to slate the religious elements but they do actually add to the story. I’m 3 episodes in but am enjoying it so far…

Just one question, why would they call the android a Necromancer, surely a Necromancer raises the dead not makes the dead?

Good point!!

I find Raised by Wolves disconcerting.

But very good sci- fi

I’ve wondered what the fuck you lot have been banging on about.

This is surely the originals and better version. Loved it. Shame they didn’t make more:

Lolz.
Here it is an HBO Show.
Think it’s on Sky.
I’m 2 episodes in and it is fvcking me over trying to find an adjective.
Unlike most sci-fi it has an Alien-ness to it - duh, Ridley Scott.
But it is not horror-fi, much deeper than that, and incredibly compelling.
Best description? I’m hooked but cannot binge it. 1 episode a day is enough.

Much like the original Brit TV series. Pantwettingly funny

It is on Sky, if you think the first 2 episodes are strange wait until you get to the 9th…

The Expanse is back and it’s great. Stayed up very late last night watching the first three episodes.

I stayed up late last night watching the last 3 episodes of Raised by Wolves, wish I’d watched the Expanse instead…

I stayed up very late last night drinking vodka & watched episode 2 of Wolves & 2 Blacklist.
Glad I did tbh as I dont remember much about Blacklist today.
Perhaps I will expand my Expanse

It’s really good. It’s all over the solar system again which is really good. Minor spoilers already in trailers. They haven’t fallen out or anything, but the crew of the Rocinante are all off on their own adventures.

You learn what Amos’ real name is and it’s adorable. We caught up with ChrisJen, busy living the Alan Partridge travel tavern life on the moon.

We’ve known the final scene of the third episode has been coming since the end of last season. Doesn’t make it any less impactful, if you’ll pardon the pun.

Perhaps The Expanse’s biggest holy fuck moment to date.
