šŸ¦‡ The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

Right, done now @gavstar

Thank you for triggering me. That is 43 minutes of my life I’m always getting back.

Glad to have helped. What did you think of the trailer? It’s got me tumescent with anticipation :lou_smiley:

I’ve never seen the original movie and haven’t read the books. I did like the miniseries that Sci-Fi Channel did when they were still doing sci-fi.

I’m actually quite indifferent. If I end up liking it, I will be one of these relative noobs the old fans complain about.

It’s easily my favourite sci-fi book, quite likely my favourite all time book, as it covers so many topics from genetic engineering, ecology, religious dogma and indoctrination, colonialism, mind expansion and of course love, weaving them all together pretty seamlessly. I loved David Lynch’s vision for the film, even if the final product was rushed and lost it’s way a bit. From what I hear Denis Villeneuve has 2 films to cover the first book (a luxury that I wish had been afforded to Lynch), which might not do noobs any favours as it doesn’t really kick off until the second half of the book.

You need to watch that movie about the Dune that didn’t get made. Jarowsky’s Dune I think.
Then understanding they have Flord becomes immense.
Look out for some Salvador Gausi hints too

Ah, you like it for the same reasons I like Babylon 5.

Understood.

Never seen Babylon 5, worth a look?

Fvck yeah.

This post could go on a number of threads.

Just watched Ep1 of a new show.
Its attention to detail in building an image of the nightmare world experienced by Black people in post 1945 America is superb.

It starts in what appears to be a WWII Trench somewhere in the Pacific theatre. Gritty.

Then goes weird.
The Black America is superbly crafted then goes weird.

I like it.

Lovecraft Country on Sky in UK.

So the majority can’t watch it?

Definitely. First and last seasons are a bit ropey, but need to be watched.

Seasons 2-4 will be like nothing you’ve ever seen on telly. The tension really builds up, some fucking big kick offs are had.

Throughout, nothing ever gets reset.

I’m sure @pap posted about Spiderman Universe somewhere.

It’s on Netflix. I had time to kill.
It was really well done.
I was engaged entertained & I laughed.

Good to hear from you again Intiniki, you have been missed.

If you mean Enter The Spider-Verse, yes, it is very good, but it’s not on UK Netflix.

Disney+ are carrying it here, I believe.

Given that all these alternate universes sprang up as mechanisms to resolve long standing continuity, they make some pretty good stories out of the concept.

I made a few tweaks to the inter-city catapult.
