It’s all terribly meta and OTT, isn’t it? A bit like two warring parents communicating via their children. Except actually, beneath all of the posturing and plumping of chests, there’s two parties that still remember when they got on famously. “Mummy and daddy love each other very much, they just can’t be together any more.”
Personally speaking, I have to say I’ve no particular allegiance. Steve’s a top bloke and I’ve met him/played football with him quite a few times now. Pap, I’ve just met the once, but we got on well and seem to have similar philosophies on a few things.
At the end of the bloody day, it’s about whiling away some time online and chatting shit. The concept of only being able to do that in one place or it requiring some sort of odd loyalty is frankly baffling. Any supposed ‘drama’ is pure pantomine and nothing more.

That concept is only in the minds of a very select few. 'Tis odd how it is so easy to predict who they would be though!

I think bletch’s assessment of things is spot on. The few times Granty and I ever interacted, I got the sense of someone who didn’t know what was going on with his own forum, which was, in case you missed it, a big jump in standards. When I first started posting on the Lounge, dune was setting the agenda there. dune! Rhodesia and Gibraltar were regular topics of discussion. Turkish would occasionally start a thread on why he didn’t understand why certain things were or were not racist. For the most part, it was fucking dire. Many posters on this site deserve a lot credit for keeping it from being utterly so. The Lounge got revamped. The racist tired perfomers of TMS gave way to ursine superiors.
The personal abuse, lest we forget, what I actually got banned for, was never under control. Whatever I got banned for, any offence I caused I did alone. Apart from bletch, who was a big part of the reason that the personal abuse never bothered me too much, I never ran with a crew there. I wasn’t part of any unholy bullying PM clique, and that goes for a lot of the perma-banned. All of the destructive cliques are still there. The mods let them wreak havoc; last summer’s full member mini-exodus was a decent example of the consequences.
I don’t want anyone ever saying “fuck papsweb, I’ve had enough” because coming here has made them feel unhappy or unwelcome through bullying. A spicy joust between capable posters is one thing, and is sometimes a beautiful thing to see. Baying packs of hyenas? Nah.

I think you may be the only person in existence that hasn’t purged those podcasts from their memory though, myself included. Kudos on that!
I think therein lies a problem. A clique of 5 paying trolls represents (Calculator at the ready) 25 quid. It’s impossible to ignore that kind of monetary clout. Am I being sarky? Maybe, maybe not…It’s a mystery! worth noting though, that trolls do have a monetary worth.

That’s a possibility, but someone may also just consider the grief they’d get afterward too. I’ve just seen it from an outsider’s perspective, so I’ve no real insight. I’ll be charitable, and say that it certainly doesn’t seem like an exact science

Tokes the whole ‘not really wanting muppet show type posters’ concept is an amusing one. I made a proposal to Steve and Baj a couple of years ago about creating a seperate muppet area into a seperate forum, but one that was linked from TSW, so it would be a ‘little brother’ type forum, running alongside the main forum, but taking away the responsability from the main forum, but Steve was having none of it, he doesn’t want to bother with the muppet/Lounge areas, but doesn’t want to let them go either.
The whole stats quoting is also amusing as statically that’s not the first time that when someone questions that forum, there’s a comeback about increased use of the forum!
I’m struggling to take offence at anything he said. The impression I got from him is he’s a football man through and through and just not so into the larking about stuff. Which is fine. Don’t think he’s motivated by the money - I doubt these things are ever profitable. I think his posts on the topic were just being honest.
Saintsweb is alright. This one is alright. Seems to me that some take them a little too seriously though, either through aggresive posting or a feeling of victimisation, but that’s just my opinion.

Yelp, I’m not sure there’s a smiley potent enough to make that less creepy, haha! 
Its always good to have a new start. Whether its football or general stuff the other place is becoming domianted by a few self appointed ‘polymaths’ who either ignore considered debate, dish out abuse or believ everything they say is fact. Hoping this forum is more mature.

I can see why this forum was formed. Most want to have a bit of a giggle during the day and discuss things in a lighthearted manner without being jumped on or destroyed by blandness. Whilst saints web had only a few constraints, it is still freer over here to express yourself without getting into an argument which isn’t for everyone. It should complement the other forum well and I wish it luck.
