🍻🍷 The Map of 🇲🇷 Booze thread whatever the title says (or is changed to when moderately intoxicated)

Strong chance I’ll have to be one of the ones pouring the drinks, as staffing is… Well, interesting at present.

Still, at least that means I can ensure you lot get the 5* service.

I will at least try to find cover, though.

Kid Goat is looking for PT work!

Get 'em to drop me an email (and CV if they have one?) to [email removed], if it’s something that might suit!

Our emails are annoyingly prone to landing in people’s ‘Spam’ folder, so worth keeping an eye on that. Trying to get it sorted at the moment.

Tonight I was mostly immersed in red wine. Rioja followed by Fitou.

To accompany a rather splendid curry of my own making.

I am mellow.

Happy Father’s Day

A fascinating Lindeman’s Oude Gueze Cuvee Rene 2022 Lambic @6%

Challenge anyone to say Meh after tasting this.

There’s all sorts in here. Salt, sour, sweet, bitter, astringent dryness and then sweet again.

Shit those Belgians know nearly as much about brewing as they do about locking children in their cellars.

Otherworld Brewing - Motueka and Lime - Hazy Pale @5.7%

Very distinctive. I get the lime but on first sniff I got lemongrass / Thai and perhaps ginger. The taste is more of the same. It’s a pale ale with lime but so much more. Unique in my experience.

Happy Father’s Day III

Boxcar Brewery - Double Dark Mild @6.3%

Double Dark Mild undersells this big time. Glorious full and pillowy feeling in the mouth with sweet hints of plum and brown sugar, then subtle malt and the briefest sense of burnt ash before a tang bitter. Bloody lush.

Brewdog - Rattle and Rum - Rum and Oak Chip Stout @ 7.4%

Smells amazing. Sweet and vanilla notes with a roasty toasty not-quite-coffee something or other. But the taste doesn’t quite live up to it. Pleasant but all the promise of deep flavour doesn’t happen. Too sweet and then it dissipates.

@NotBletch is turning into these folks…

Now that’s what I call a great pub. Complete new build by Joules (Shropshire brewers) on the site if their first brewery in Stone.

Includes timber and pub signs from many of the 25 Shropshire pubs they’ve saved and renovated. Also built in the style of warehouses alongside the canal, where it stands.

Beer is great too

A few here will identify with this shaggy dog story…

I just saw a fire engine speeding through town.

It was on its way to The Bookshop, where apparently, an over-candelled birthday cake had got out of control.

Happy Birthday you OLD bastard.

See you on the first!
