😃 The Little Pleasures of Everyday Life

I had a task.
I needed to acquire new Hiking Boots for Rome.
Obviously i cant afford the classy stuff like @lifeintheslowlane but i researched and i had Columbia for Hleneagles & Paris so they were top of tge list

Then the health scare so the Boots became the first “when” motivator.
A week of running round stores trying different brands/sizes.
Tgen the hoŕrors of Polish online shopping.

Anyway.
They are “pending” order completion

Im exhausted

The local Barangay Fiesta today so the marching band came round for some food before the big parade.
They played Oh when the Saints. Then the cheer leaders went swimming

Great stuff

I particularly liked the bit which was the musical equivalent of getting to the second verse of the national anthem and everyone hums because they don’t know the words

Unbelievable.
After a week of research, readng reviews, travelling round Krakow to try different brands to get an idea of how their sizes work, after a day of fighting Polish e-commerce web sites while Mrs P_F laughed.

My Hiking Boots arrived this morning.
They are the right brand, right model, and they fit. I saved 35 quid on the store price (not that anyone had my size in stock, 25 quid less than Amazon and 20 quid less than Allegro which is the Polish independently owned version of Amazon.

Now to tame them fully ready for Rome!

Looks like a pair of 1984 HiTec trainers :rofl:

Phew!
I’d forgotten all about the Euro Games coming up week after next. With my new found freedom, I can go so went online to book for the Rugby 7’s and they had like SIX tickets left!
SO, anyway I’m in, on a Hall Pass, what could possibly go wrong

Confession. In my youth, and for a bit after, I was a fanatical campanologist. Or to put it another way, a bellringing nerd. Then, about 45 years ago, life took over and I stopped.

But, for no apparent reason, I’ve recently had an itch to see if I can still ring. I started back last November, now ring regularly at my local towers (Wem and Clive) and am now venturing further afield in search of more advanced ringing.

This will mean nothing to 99% of my readers, but I’ve had the huge satisfaction tonight of ringing Surprise Major methods (that means quite complicated) for the first time in over 40 years.

Strangely satisfying.

I ring the bell whenever I need a servant :rofl:

As @lifeintheslowlane knows

My uncle, Jack Hull rang the changes at St Nicholas Church in Brock for nearly 75 years. Those he taught rang the bells at his memorial service in 1996.

This may be a strange and serious thing to post under “Pleasures”.

I will be spending this weekend with my stepson’s family, including my grandson who suffers from Dravet’s Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy that impedes development and is life-threatening, at Center Parcs.

The weekend is an inspirational concept. 100 families will be there, all having a child with Dravet’s. Normally, such families can’t be away from home anywhere more than 30 mins from a hospital, as seizures are frequent, prolonged and life-threatening. Seb (my grandson) has twice had to be placed in induced comas in the last year to get him out of a seizure.

But for this gathering, a complete field hospital complete with two ambulances and full medical team is installed on site, giving parents, grandparents and carers the reassurance to get a rare break and share their stresses.

It won’t be a relaxing weekend, but I suspect it will be very thought-provoking.

That was embarassingly poor against a side that would struggle in League 2. Rather like watching Saints last season - pass it sideways, pass it backwards, push it forward - lost it. First goal looked more offside than a half a dozen Saints goals that were disallowed. Two penalties that weren’t - good dive Harry! Why is Maddison even in the squad? All he does is pass it sideways, commit unnecesary fouls and give the ball away.
